On the Discovery channel, there was a documentary on Hitlers early life, it featured an interview with Ian Kershaw and documented Hitlers life from childhood to around 1925, but I cannot find it anywhere. It was filmed in the early to mid 90’s and it is not Nazis: A Warning from History. The name was something along the lines of The Story of Hitler or Hitler: A Life, and it centered on the myth Hitler had constructed about his own upbringing.
Kershaw wrote the two-volume biography of Hitler subtitled Hubris and Nemesis. Could that be it?
He also wrote The Hitler Myth, which came out in 2001:
I’ve got that book, but it’s specifically a tv programme.
Sounds as if it might be the 2002 BBC Timewatch documentary on ‘The Making of Adolf Hitler’. You can find a bit of it on Youtube. It does include Kershaw as one of the talking heads. But then again, which Hitler documentary doesn’t?
The BBC repeated it earlier this year as part of a season to mark the 1945 anniversary. It seemed to me to hold up rather well. But then the *Timewatch* programmes of the Laurence Rees era did tend to be first-rate.Yes, but the titles may have been recycled.
Here is Kershaw’s IMDb “self” page. The earliest listed is a series from 1997. However, “self” entries are usually far from complete.
That is one seriously messed up page. Whoever wrote it is apparently unaware that Ian Kershaw the actor/playwright and Ian Kershaw the historian/author are two different people.
It was this one! And I found the complete episode. Thanks guys.
