ID This Song: "Jar of Hearts" and...???

If you know the song “Jar of Hearts”, there was another popular song by another female artist out at the same time with lyrics along the same lines. Perhaps the message was not as strong, but the lyrics express the same pain of being hurt by someone playing with her emotions.

I know…it could be any song, right? But, perhaps the fact that it was out at the same time as “Jar of Hearts” might be a clue? You probably heard this song on your pop or adult contemporary types of radio stations. All educated guesses welcome, and I will check them out with the help of YouTube to see if any match the song I have in mind. (…Will post back later and let you know, if we have a winner.)

Possibly **Paramore’s **Only Exception?

The actual message is that she love’s the “you” in question, but she details a lot of heartbreak before singing that part.

King of Anything by Sara Bareilles?

Would be my guess too especially if the song is more “poppy” than Jar of Hearts? Possibly La Roux “Bulletproof” but it is more about being an independent woman than being hurt. Also came out in 2009 but got popular about the time of Jar o’ Hearts.

“Jar of Hearts” is actually a veiled retelling of the Mortal Kombat mythos.

I always thought it should have been about The Gentlemen from the “Hush” episode of Buffy.

Justin_Bailey:

I was thinking along the lines of “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.”

Yes! “King of Anything” is what I was thinking of! Sorry it took me awhile to respond, but I do come back around to visit every once in awhile! Busy, busy, busy… Thanks again, everyone!
