ID this song?

This should be really easy, provided I ask the question right.

There’s a song from the late 60s that is used in practically every movie set in that period. Whenever I hear that song in a movie, I fully expect to see love beads and war protests and Nixon. I think that in Forrest Gump it was played in one of the first Viet Nam scenes.

I don’t know the lyrics, except one of the first lines is “Ah, the red, white and blue.” I think the chorus is “I get me”, or “I can’t pee”, or “I’m Aunt Bea”, or something like that. The chords might be (in the key of A) A|G|D|A. I suspect the song might be by Buffalo Springfield.

Bonus question: Who wrote and originally performed Take the Hold Off Andy?

Easy.

"It ain’t me…it ain’t me…I ain’t no Fortunate Son. Creedence Clearwater Revival.

And “Take the load off, Annie…” * The Weight* The Band

Are you thinking of “Fortunate Son” by Creedence Clearwater Revival?

“Fortunate Son” by Creedence ?
“It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no fortunate son”

Triple post! Sweet!

Wow, triple - simulpost!

looks joyous

Why, it’s RIO, by Dur is muffled and hauled away

Told you it would be easy.

Thanks!

By the way, the other song always, always used to depict Vietnam is in fact Buffalo Springfield’s For What It’s Worth. The title is never used in the song itself, but the chorus goes:

“Stop, children, what’s that sound?
Everybody look what’s going down…”

Stephe96, good additional info. Peace, man.

And yet clearly it’s really about gophers and deer, being hunted in the forest.

And, for what it’s worth, Buffalo Springfield had some folks in it that later went on to become Crosby, Stills, and Nash.
