Id this spider

Beneath this smiling face lurks the murderous brain of a spider. What kind? (Central South Carolina).

Spiny orb weaver.

Thank you!

Oh, that’s Frank. Nice guy.

I’ve always referred to them / heard them called, “crab” spiders.

Another fine example of, “Ignorance, successfully fought!”

Thank you!

Disclaimer: I’m not any kind of spider expert–I’m just curious and my *fu * was working well at 9:40 this morning. :stuck_out_tongue:

Huh. I saw one of these in Florida and was idly wondering. Thanks for making the thread.

Different guys. Although probably acceptable colloquialism/regionalism.

Oooook, then! So, now we have “fought ignorance”, to an even deeper level! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks, lurking!

(And I’m sure, “crab” spiders everywhere thank you, also!)

We always called those “lake” spiders. They creep me the f*** out.

I was bitten on the face (and subsequently hospitalized for 4 days) last year by a hobo spider. Crab spiders still freak me out worse, even though I know they’re harmless.
