Idaho state law & psychics....

So what is the state law in Idaho RE psychics, fortune telling, card reading, etc.?

A total ban? A “For Entertainment Only” disclaimer? What?

I checked the Idaho Constitution, Code, caselaw and opinions of the Idaho attorney general online and found several uses of the word “psychic,” but in context it was clear that it was being used synonymously for “psychological” (as in references to “psychic or physiological dependence,” Id. Code Title 37). I found no references to fortune telling or card reading. It’s possible that some city or town has an ordinance (local law) regarding any of these things, as city councils are notoriously wont to pass silly laws, but it’s not a statewide law.

I am not your lawyer, this is not legal advice, consult a qualified attorney licensed in the State of Idaho if you wish, etc. etc.

Why should anyone make money on pseudo/science when standard Psychology has proven far more effective in dealing with these people’s “problems”? Psychics are just a cheap rip-off of proven scientific methods!

Doesn’t mean it should be illegal. There is a difference between “X is complete b.s. and should be avoided by all right-thinking people” and “X should be illegal” (and it’s a difference that seems to have been completely missed by most of our elected legislatures).

A lot of states simply have “broad” laws that are still on the books that they can apply when needed.

For instance, in Illinois, there is a simple law that states “You can’t represent yourself as something you’re not.”

This is an easy way to arrest you for pretending to be a policeman or such. In the past it was also used to arrest people for things like crossdressing, but that use has been set aside.

So if you have such a type of law you could conceivably, use it against pychics, because there are no such thing so you can’t represent yourself as one. A defense against the arrest would be to simply demonstrate you ARE a psychic.
