Idea For Getting Out Youth Vote: Hold Election Night Parties Free For Voters?

Was just talking with a friend and we came up with an idea - (ok, maybe it is a ploy) - but contacting a few of the larger nightclubs and see if they would be interested in having a big election night party on the night of the General Election in November and give free entry (or drinks or whatever) to anyone who brings in their voting stub.

Our thoughts are that it might encourage some younger people to go vote, if for no other reason than to gain free entry to a cool party that night. Many were probably going to vote anyway, but this might ensure they don’t get lazy that day and bale - if they think it could also be a ticket to a fun event.

Dumb idea, or worth pursuing?

That’s going to be one hell of a party. In 1996 there were 11.5 million registered voters, ages 18-24.

How many clubs were you planning on getting involved? Blue states? Red states?

I’ll resist putting on my old fart hat and engaging in righteous outrage, but if you young’uns want to be treated to a cool election party, do it the old fashioned way. Volunteer for a campaign and get invited to the candidate/party big shebang for supporters.
