i am about to embark on my final school year, my history extension course involves a large component as a personal interest project- a years worth of research and the final result simply a 2000 word essay/thesis sort of thing, one of my poblems is that i get very bored very quickly, any ideas on a project that could sustain my interest for an entire year? it is suggested the topic is not too broad, and has some established controversy, well just some other historians who have reasearched the same topic prior. some e.g’s of projects from last year:
holocaust denial- is it legitimate?
leaders and the groundings of which - martin luther king jr.
FBI- i cant remeber on what exactly
the media in the GULF WAR what kind of truth did america really portray?
something on indian partition
i cant really rememebr the good examples, but im sure you get it.
I am not sure this will interest you, given recent events, but keep in mind that there is more to history than war…
How about something to do with The Great Depression?
I personally found the lives and the world of The Great Depression to be incrediblly interesting. The people that committed suicide, the people that had to endure the dust bowl, the people that helped bring our economy back, the governmental issues (my political leanings aside). It was all a very interesting period that many don’t focus on.
There are a lot of facets that surround it. Not just the stock market crash but the events that came from it.
Just a thought. It was a thought provoking topic to study in the 80s when we were about prosperity and excessiveism, not unlike we have been in the 90s and now…
Check it out, not sure if your classmates are into learning more and the sufferings and the comebacks were very interesting. Oh and since our stock market has been in a wild ride in the last year it might be a timely topic…you just have to break it down to topic you can work with. Maybe the controversy being the governments role in it and how that relates to the free market view of many Americans.
or how about Prohibition? that’s another good one, that’s very controversial in today’s world and comparing our drug war today…
Okay I done giving those ideas but worthy of considering.
Perhaps do a paper on the true history of William Wallace. Not only would you get an interesting story (just look him up on Google and start reading), but it’s timely. Plus you would be doing Scotsmen everywhere a favor.
