Ideas for youtube video watching?

Matt is a nut! We first became aware of him on, “Vet Ranch,” where he’s Dr. Matt, along with his sister, Dr. Carrie, with the occasional visit by their dad, Dr. Lee (who has his own YT channel, “Out on the Ranch.”) A family of veterinarians treating injured strays that will be fostered/adopted; all via donations from viewers. Dr. Matt also hosts, “Off the Ranch,” which is all about his home life. If I had 1/100th the energy that man has, I could cure cancer (if I was a doctor). Some of the vet vids are graphic, but usually have a blurred version for the faint at heart.

Talking Kitty is a classic! https://www.youtube.com/user/stevecash83 Watch from the beginning to get the full story. Oddly, Steve hasn’t done any type of update in months. I fear something happened to Sylvester (the black cat).

Search for Tik Tok. Particularly “douyin tik tok” https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=douyin+tik+tok which I believe is the original channel. Short silly videos, though some are themed. If you don’t like one set, try another. My favorites are the ones with a brother and sister https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3SB5SBMhJg. The faces she makes are priceless!

Also, give Bubbly a try. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT4axCsIzoY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4M8C8X_XbQ She’s not for everyone, but I find her hilarious!

I like pretty much everything by Wisecrack. Most of their content is just the right mix of funny and insightful.

ThugNotes is brief literary analysis through the eyes of a gangsta (sample: 1984). Earthling Cinema is sorta the same thing for movies, this time from the point of view of an alien examining cultural artifacts from Earth (sample: Star Wars: The Last Jedi). 8-bit Philosophy features short clips in 8-bit graphics about various philosophical concepts (sample: What is Marxism?). They also do various longer ‘philosophy of…’-videos, often using pop culture as an entry point to discussing some philosophical concepts (sample: The philosophy of Lord of the Rings). Also in a somewhat longer format, there’s the ‘Deep or Dumb’-series, where they try to sort out what’s hype and what’s hate (sample: Nicolas Cage’s Acting—highly recommended, by the way).

There’s various other bits, such as their ‘What Went Wrong’-series about movies that could’ve been good, but weren’t, but the above is what I spent most of my YouTube time with.

lindybeige is a sharp guy with loads of historical insight, if that’s your jam.

If you want a series, try The Guild. Insanely funny, especially if you’re a gamer at all.

I’m thirding the Try channel. I can start watching one and then lose several hours just watching them one after another.

You’re pretty much guaranteed some great things by just searching for FAIL lol I could spend hours watching those and I have. I’m also a big fan of Vine compilations. The poster child of short and funny lol

I’m not sure I understand why, but I’ve been watching MRE taste test videos. Not interested in the gross-out ones of someone trying ones well past their date, but it’s interesting to see what forces in every country get. The poutine in the Canadian onewas…regrettable.

The opening bit of the video where they open the can of surstromming, and all immediately start retching and gagging, is one of my favorite things on YouTube.

You can also check out their old channel that got shut down by its new owner: Facts. (Fortunately, they left the old videos up.)

Though Try gives people more credit and didn’t ban LeatherJacketGuy, who then started doing some try videos on his own channel, just with his own style (and usually drunk).

Also, one of the Try ladies has her own channel that I love: Diane Jennings. She’s currently on a kick of going to the US, having gone to Texas for Thanksgiving and now going to New York to research her family history. But she also will do lists and try videos in her room.

And last but not least for this sort of thing: A channel where Koreans try out foods–including North Korean refugees!

Then you might like the highlights from panel shows, then. To get your feet wet, try 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown, which is a panel show where they play a game show. If you like that, try out Would I Lie to You (WILTY), Mock the Week, QI, and then look at the recommended for other shows.

I’d give you links, but you really are better off just searching for those show titles, as some compilations are official, but some aren’t.

I watched quite a few of those MRE tests posted by Crazy Russian Hacker. I thought it was interesting how the various cultures and culinary traditions were reflected in their military’s MRE’s.

There’s Try and there’s Facts. I couldn’t tell you which one came first, but it’s all the same people and it’s pretty amusing to watch. Yeah, the guy with the peanut butter and Leather Jacket Guy when he’s trying alcohol (also Shannon).

Back to the OP. What youtube serves up to you is very dependent on what you watch. So much so that I’ll often watch videos in private mode if I don’t want my suggestions filled up with similar ones later.
So, watch videos you like, stay away from ones you don’t like (or use private mode or give them a thumbs down). Youtube will quickly hone in on what you actually do like.

You might try Cinefix or WatchMojo/MsMojo. Watchmojo does a ton of top 10 lists and they’re produced pretty well.

I’ve been watching 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown, although I’ve never actually watched Countdown itself. Previously I watched QI, particularly the older ones with Stephen Fry hosting.

Facts did come first and I am glad that their videos are still there. I am not sure what happened to that channel but it was around either an adpocalypse or major YouTube change in structure that the Facts channel closed down and Try started up shortly afterward.

QI is great! Well, “quite interesting”, actually.
It’s funny, quirky, but also full of odd facts and educational stuff, so that you don’t feel guilt for wasting 2 hours

Something that always bugged me about Try/Facts…The title will be something like “Irish People Try American Soda/Candy/Cocktails etc” but then instead of having them try, say, 7up or M&M’s or Margaritas (and, yes, I know they’ve done all that), it’ll be bizarre things like Turkey and Mashed Potato Jelly Bellies or Tabasco Infused Gin and Tonic…thing that no American consumes other than as a novelty.

I still love the channel, but I think of it less as watching Irish people try things and more ‘listen to Irish people talk’.

If you like older music check out Pentatonix it’s acappella music you would swear had instruments. The two main singers are great too.

Queens Of The Stone Age music videos, and whatever comes on randomly afterward. If you don’t like the music, hit ‘Mute’ and watch anyway.
And Tool.
