I’ve been watching a lot of youtube videos. Almost exclusively highlight/lowlight compilations from game shows. *
Any suggestions? I don’t want to pay, I’ll watch the ads. And I was annoyed by the one video I watched of “Here’s our top ten bits from a TV show, but we won’t actually show you more than a tiny snippet of what made it good, we’ll just talk about how good it was”**
So: short, funny, not terribly political, outtakes are good, commentary is not so good.
Is there stuff on hulu that is ad-driven, or is it now all pay to watch?
Hot Ones is a celebrity interview show. Sean asks 10 questions while everyone from Niel DeGrasse Tyson to Coolio answer while eating increasing hotter wings. It’s addictive.
Watch Tom Scott. His videos are short, punchy, informative, and a couple of times a year he invents a new game show format and has six or eight episodes of that.
Vines were short, 7 second videos and you can find compilations of over an hour that are chock full of them. Vine’s were a go-to for up and coming comedians to do little skits and some are just hilarious.
Townsends videos. 18th century cooking, plus live at the Nutmeg Tavern. they’re historical reenactors who have a retail presence selling historically accurate stuff.
I also like Frederick Dunn’s bee-keeping videos, but then, I’m planning to get into beekeeping and I want info. He goes into it very scientifically, such as putting out watering stations with filtered water, water with salts and water wither essential oils and monitoring their consumption. Or doing slow videography of behavior at the hive landing boards, to show the difference between the landing workers, the guard bees, etc. Very informative.
If you like video games watch Videogame Dunkey. A lot of his videos appear very random/childish at first, but there is good analysis and satire hidden under the surface.
I watch “Movie pitches” which is another version of “Cinema Sins” and “Honest Trailers”. Also like Epic Rap Battles, and I liked most of what Cracked’s video division did back in the day.
My default YouTube viewing usually involves funny cats and dogs or Russian dashboard cam videos. There seem to be millions of those. Very lowbrow, but a good way to kill at least a few minutes.
