Identify this caterpillar, please

A friend of mine took this picture in southern Georgia, and is wondering what species of moth or butterfly it is.

And here’s hoping that I’ve got the permissions set right.

Some type of Hawk Moth (there are a LOT of them!).

Agreed - some sort of sphingid. And the caterpillars are both variable and often vaguely similar to each other. The Banded Sphinx Moth might be a reasonable guess. But I wouldn’t absolutely put money on it.

Hmmm…, didn’t notice that shot at first. That morph looks mighty close - might actually be the critter.
