Found inching along inside a barn (central South Carolina). The orange blur in the top left corner of photo #5 is the nose of a kitty, which is how I discovered the bug.
And later one of the ducks almost had a heart attack when it saw it. I’m sure she was thinking, “Oh, boy! Dessert!” (I shooed her away from it, and prolonged its life a few minutes, maybe.)
