Identify this comedian

I taped this guy’s set in the late 1980s on one of those comedy-club shows that were popular then, but I forgot to label it and it’s long gone. He looked like a cross between Vincent Schiavelli and the late great Dennis Wolfberg. He had a great bit that went something like this: (picture broad gesturing and appropriate enunciation) "When you’re an ACTOR, you must LEARN to PROJECT your VOICE – so that you can SAY (grandiose pause), ‘Of COURSE I am eligible for FOOD STAMPS!!’ " He also did an extended “trailer” for a supposed upcoming Roman Polanski film: “In (insert RP movie title here) he thrilled you. (repeat similar puffery) In Tess, he bored you to tears!” The movie was a very spooky-sounding “Santa Claus Is Coming,” with accompanying Jaws-type music. Santa is always watching you, he knows what you’re doing, etc. – he’s a stalker. It was hilarious.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

The bit about Tess, and Roman Polanski, sounds like Dana Gould. Dark hair, curly. Really funny guy. He was on that show Working during its first season. He’s also written for The Simpsons.

Here’s some more info on Dana Gould.

Hmmm. I’m still checking this out. I looked at a few pictures of him – it could be, but the guy I remember seemed older and scruffier. Of course Dana Gould’s own Web site is giving me “Errors on page” and I can’t get in. I found a few audio files of his bits, but none seemed to be the ones I remember.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! I’ll keep trying to verify whether this is the person I saw.
