I keep seeing this particular ‘satellite’ image in the opening intro scene on “The Expanse”. It looks incredibly familiar to me. It’s labeled “Steven Strait” in the pic, but that’s just the main actor’s name. That piece of geography looks VERY familiar to me, but I’ve been unable to identify it. Can anyone help?
A bit of sleuthing seems to indicate it is the Petermann Glacier in Greenland. There’s a lot of good information on the opening sequence at that link.
Oh yeah, that’s it all right! Thanks a bunch!!
I had seen that area before when mucking around on Google Earth exploring the research station of Alert on Ellesmere Island, Nunavut. No wonder it was familiar.
Took me a bit to stop googling for “Steven Strait”, expecting it to be a geographic feature and not a name. D’oh!
That is an unfortunate juxtaposition of actor name and imagery.
We should petition the Canadian and Danish governments to rename the Nares Strait.
Hmm, Vice-Admiral, Knight Commander, author, and explorer? Or that actor guy from 10,000 B.C.? It’s a close call. (Just a joke, Steven. Keep up the good work.)
It looks like one of my recent chest/lungs X-rays.
For those who are curious, here it is on Google Maps.
Yep, the Petermann glacier, which flows into the S̶t̶e̶v̶e̶n̶ Nares strait.
