Identify this zombie book please.

I’m certain you folks can help me as I’m certain I only read the thing because it was mentioned here. I’ve looked through my archive of ebooks and can’t find it otherwise I’d know what it was called.

I’m pretty sure it takes place in the UK. It’s not “28 Days Later” or “Shawn of the Dead” though. The main characters are 2 men and 1 woman. The meet in the city during the initial zombification and decide it would be best to leave the main population center. At some point they hole up in a cottage in the country that has a small shed or garage with a generator. They make supply runs to small towns in the outlying area between fending off random zombie attacks.

Eventually one of the guys can’t take it anymore and wants to set off on his own. I’m pretty sure he uses a motorbike for his solo attempt. I can’t remember what happens after that. I do recall it being a real page turner so I’d like to read it again. Hence my plea for identification.

I asked over at the horror board.

Nominations:

I Am Legend by Richard Matheson (old book, from the 50’s)

Autumn by David Moody (that story’s on line)

White by Tim Lebbon

I can tell you for sure that it is NOT “I Am Legend”. The location for that book is decidedly urban/suburban.

Not Day of the Triffids, is it? Not quite zombies, though.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner! Thanks very much AuntiePam! I even found it in my archives thanks to having the correct title.

You’re welcome. I’ll tell the folks at the horror board that they did it again.

So, is the story worth reading?

I liked it and was reminded of it because “28 Days Later” was on tv last night. I’m going to read it again now that I’ve re-found it. You can get it free from the author’s site.

There are apparently 3 sequels now. All 3 for $13. I bet I’ll be buying them after I read the first one again.

Has anyone read Mark Rogers’ THE DEAD? He saw my comments somewhere & we had a short e-mail correspondence early last year till my computer blew out in the Spring & we never re-established it. Anyway, it’s a Catholic Rapture novel- the Righteous (maybe of all religions- I’m not sure) are taken, and plenty of Christians are left with everyone else to face legions of demonic cannibalistic zombies…

and it works!
