Something I just noticed: Moderators don’t seem to be identified as such, I’m mostly seeing their custom titles/descriptions. This is going to make it a little tricky to tell when it’s a real moderator giving real moderator instructions.
Also, vBulletin had a list of who moderated each forumcategory and I haven’t found where Discourse has such, if any.
Look for a little shield after their name.
Thanks, I see it now. Subtle and easily missed.
If you click the icon with the three horizontal lines near the top of the page, and then click About, you get a list of Administrators and Moderators. But it doesn’t identify which Mods patrol which forums.
Interesting that one of the Admins is identified as a Guest.
Also interesting that most of our long-absent moderators have been scrubbed from the list, but (AFAIK) a few remain.
You’ll find them in the Retired_Straight_Dope_Staff usergroup. A lot of them have usergroups of their own.
related question. How do we report an inappropriate post?
and speaking of such, have we avoided spam by making this move?
You flag it.
Click the three little dots under the post. That should expand the toolbar to show the flag icon. Click it, pick whichever option best fits the situation, and submit. Only the Something Else choice will allow you to type in a reason.
Great, thanks. I guess “flag” is a term of art.
