Idiot, I don't care why your dog NEEDS to poop on my yard

A guy moved into my building a couple months ago with his dog. Apparently he is too good to pick up after said dog. Shortly after he moved in, I started noticing piles of poop around the building - and on inside the courtyard, which is a HUGE no-no (this is a condo building, but both he and I are renters) with the condo board.

Before I lived here there weren’t a whole lot of rules about dog ownership. Then the girl who rented my apartment before me got a dog and would “walk” the dog by taking it into the courtyard wouldn’t pick up after it. The board passed rules that dog owners (from what I understand, at the time there were only 3 dogs in the whole building, including hers) had to pick up after their dogs. So then she started bagging the poop, but leaving it there. I’ve been told by several neighbors that they’d walk out the front door and see 3 or 4 bags at a time, just scattered on the lawn. So THEN the board passed a rule that you couldn’t let your dog go inside the gates at ALL. She moved out soon after, I moved in and when I got my dogs, I was told I had to take them out of the gates to go. Even though I got them as puppies, it didn’t take a lot of effort to train them to hold it until we got out of the yard.

Now this new guy moved in, and at first he was letting his dog poop in the courtyard and not picking it up, and then I guess he was informed of the rules - so he takes his dog just outside the gate and still doesn’t pick up after him. A guy that lives down the block told me that he was walking his dog and stopped to say hello to the new guy and his dog, and when the dog pooped, he asked the new guy if he was going to pick it up and the guy mumbled something about not having a bag. Since then it’s been ridiculous. There’s a new pile every time I go outside. I never noticed how conscientious people in my neighborhood are about their dogs until this d-bag moved in. Since I haven’t actually caught the guy in the act I haven’t said anything to him, but I’ve considered leaving a package of poop bags outside his door w/ a note telling him where they can be purchased.

I think most dog owners get MORE pissed off than non-dog owners about people like this because we take the time - the extra 15 seconds or whatever it is - to keep the neighborhood clean and yet non-dog-owners might assume we’re ALL inconsiderate maroons that don’t care if they step in our dogs’ crap.

Anyone who doesn’t clean up after their dog deserves to have it collected and dumped on them at random unexpected times, like when they’re sleeping peacefully, or in the middle of a very important business meeting, or just before “you may kiss the bride” when they get married. Why do they think anyone else wants to step in their dog shit? It just amazes me that some people think this is okay.

I’m reminded of the scene in Despicable Me

Gru to neighbor: “Your dog has been leaving little bombs all over my yard again!”
Neighbor: "Oh, you know dogs, they just go wherever they want…’
Gru: “Not if they’re dead!” (neighbor blanches) “I kid, I kid…although it is true…”

I’m eager for an update. Can you call the city or something? Or pick up the shit and dump it on her property? I’m sure the shock’s worn off. Let her have it. I’m constantly amazed at assholes like this—why have the fucking dog if you don’t want to deal with the responsibilities that come with it?

I’m a dedicated dog person and I’m furious at people who do not pick up their dogs’ poop. (Also people who ignore the leash laws).

Incidentally, where I live you have to pick up the dogs’ poop period, even if it’s your own yard and you don’t mind it…because it’s everybody’s watershed.

Yes! That’s the one! Thanks, mang.

I saw a sign that someone had posted on a green, off-leash area that I go through to get to Safeway - it was a printed, full colour, complete with photographs polite request for dog owners to PICK UP THEIR DOG’S SHIT so every can enjoy the green space. I think I’ll go take a picture of it and post it in this thread tomorrow.

Or do it himself.

May he poop on her knee?

No, I don’t own the sidewalk or the easement. But I am required to keep the sidewalk shoveled in the winter and keep the grass on the easement cut in the summer.

And it doesn’t really matter who owns it; if your dog shits anywhere, you clean it up.

This story is insane! (But sadly not unbelievable)

You take your dog out to poop…using your car?!
You know exactly when your dog is going to poop and just…let him out of the car?!
Your dog poops in a neighbor’s yard and you don’t pick it up?!?!

My dog rides in the car all the damn time and I’ve never once looked at her while riding and determined she needs to poop. Dogs are pretty good at holding it. Especially for a few minutes. If this dog truly only poops when you take it for a ride, all the owner needs to do is zip around the block back to her OWN house and let the dog do it’s thing.

This is horrible. I hope it gets resolved for you pabstist.

France? Okay, I’m kidding, but poop 'n scoop is a relatively new and novel concept there. Last time I lived in Paris I met one of the cops (actually not sure if he was a real cop or specialized sanitation worker) who was on a small team responsible for catching people not picking up after their dogs. He said he got a lot of shit (no pun intended), more than people giving parking or speeding tickets. He said most people plead ignorance and assumed the morning street cleaners would get it. Two or three pairs of ruined shoes later and I didn’t doubt it.

t’hell with dumping it back in her yard. Freakin’ mail the shit back to her!

If you had a pair of gloves handy you should have picked it up and thrown it on her windshield.

That woman is a an idiot. I would like to tell her that.

However, I’ve had bad experiences with the “OMG pick up after your dog’s poop!!!” people.
And I do pick up after my dogs poop. But once while walking my dog in the park, comes some woman from behind me

“Um, excuse me but your dog just pooped there you have to pick it up”.

I looked and saw poop but I knew it wasn’t from my dog because I’d like, have noticed it, you know. I said it’s not my dog’s.

She said IT IS IT TOTALLY IS SHE SAW IT OMG.

So reluctantly, just to get her to stop bitching, I scoop it up and I can feel the poop is icy cold and hard (probably a few hours old). I felt like flinging it at her. And I should have.

Also to YoSaffBridge - I agree. I believe that any dog owner should be ticketed for not cleaning these deposits. Just picking a nit was I.

Take the shit and cram it under the driver’s side door handle of her car, so that when she goes to take her dog to shit in front of your house, she gets a handful of shit. It’s really the only mature thing to do (well, I’ve done it to someone who parked in my assigned apartment parking space during a snowstorm).

Because she’s too lazy to walk the the dog to the park or wherever?

We’ve got people like that in my neighborhood. We also have a fairly large park. People living a block or two away from it will literally drive their dogs to the park to potty because, god forbid, they should have to walk the dog there.

We’ve run into people like this time and again.

First, we have two dogs. We walk them twice daily. We pick up their poop wherever we are. We steer them away from yards – if they have to poop, we make them do it on the strip of grass between the sidewalk and street.

If the weather’s too bad, they poop in the backyard. We do a big clean sweep every few days. No biggie.

Picking up poop is one of the responsibilities of being a dog owner. It’s a no-brainer.

If you’re not going to do it, then don’t get a dog. Simple as that.

Oh, I know. No worries.

I’ve seen this in my neighborhood and it just boggles my mind. I can’t understand how people can let their dogs poop anywhere and just walk away.

Rub her nose in it. It’s the only way she’ll learn.

IIRC, she had a designated covered parking space, but her trashy neighbors would park in it whenever there was bad weather. There was an ice storm that coated the sidewalks, she had to park a block away, she was pregnant and crabby…
