Privately owned buildings which are open to the general public are “in public”. Privately owned buildings not open to the general public are not.

While I am actually on record in this thread as being fervently against people not picking up after their dogs, I will note that your claim here rubs both ways: dogs can’t play in our local off-leash dog park without fear of children. The posted sign says clearly “NO children under 8” but there are smaller children in there all the time, and when they (inevitably) get knocked down by large running dogs, parents often inexplicably act like it’s the dogs’ fault.
It’s just about the only place in suburbia the dogs can run off-leash and go a little crazy, and children are explicitly forbidden. There are LOTS of children-only places where dogs are forbidden.

I see this as inherently problematic, as a sign put up stating ‘Dogs Only’ would be pointless; the Zombies will ignore it. Likewise, any sign stating ‘Zombies Only’ would also be pointless as dogs can’t read.
Also, I want to be on record as opposing this disturbing new trend of segregating of Dogs and Zombies in America.

As for dog poop, I walk around with several plastic shopping bags constantly—they end up in every jacket I have. I’ve never figured out why—beyond sheer entitled fuck-wittedness—it’s so hard for people to stick a bag under their dog’s ass, pick up the corners of said bag after the dog is done, and throw it into a trash can. I do it multiple times a day. IME, it’s the owners of small dogs (<25 pounds) that are the worst offenders. Which goes hand in hand with their usually abysmal behavior and lack of training.

Actually had this problem with a neighbor of mine. Constantly letting their dog use my yard as a toilet. Being a bit passive aggressive, when I saw him allowing it once, I opened the door and said “Excuse me, do you MIND?” and he looked at me, shrugged and said “No.” So yeah. Pissed me off so I called local animal control. Apparently there’s laws against that and they sent someone over to his house to give a citation. Apparently it didn’t phase him and he continued so I called again. Another citation and a warning that if they were called out again they were going to take his dog away. So yes. The pooping stopped. At least in my yard.
These people give dog owners a bad name.
I was walking my ex’s dog one night, and he was smelling to find a good spot to drop a bomb on some ones front lawn. The owner came out and said I don’t want your dog shitting on my lawn. I told him I was going to pick it up, like I always do. He said he didn’t care and still didn’t want the dog shitting on my lawn.
Said ok sir, dragged the dog off to look for a new spot.
