No! I live on campus, and there’s roughly 35,000 students milling about the area. Not to mention all the people who work and live on the university grounds…
Just because Thobani doesn’t agree with US foreign policy is no reason to kill her.
[nitpick] It’s a university, not a college. Colleges in Canada are a lower institution, that usually act as trade schools.
Obviously, we can’t kill her just because she’s an idiot. I’m also a little worried about attempts to limit her stupidity through hate speech legislation. I’d rather put up with her stupidity than have restrictions on speech. Although I can see attempts being made to force people not to spread outright lies. But I’m not sure Thorbani crossed that line, she just has a twisted, warped one-sided perspective.
Anyway, Barbarian, I was wondering if you could tie a red, white, and blue ribbon around your middle finger and deliver a message from us in the US to her?
Actually, she was interviewed by one of my co-workers this week.
She knows many people hate her, and doesn’t really care. Her email is full, her voicemail is full, she’s been getting letters saying she’s scum of the earth. She knows.
Her response? She thinks almost every person contacting her needs to learn more about US foreign policy.
For the record, the cop who told the media that she’s being investigated for hate crimes has apologized for leaking the info after getting his knuckles rapped by his superiors.
I have a Master’s in International Relations. Her doctorate doesn’t have anything to do with US foreign policy, so I think I’m qualified to conclude she’s an idiot. But of course one doesn’t need any education at all to conclude that it is the mark of a horrible human being to declare that because of US crimes in the past, the US deserved the atrocities of Sept. 11th. And if she’s not bright enough to get that, you’re right, talking to her is a waste of time.
How can somebody ‘not get it’ that much? Forget her issues with US foreign policy, many people have been critical of US policies pretty much, forever. How can sombody in Womens Studies be crtical of the west? My guess is that she is waiting for the lucrative Head of Womens Studies Chair at Kabul U to open up.
Well, it seems to me that a lot of womens studies programs espouse communism as the ideal form of government. From that it’s not surprising that some of the extremists in the feminists movement wouldn’t side with the East against the “evil capitalist regime”.
Crazies from all ways of life I expect. What’s disappointing is that these crazies are being funded by tax dollars.
Just out of curiosity, is there any specific non-western culture that this woman thinks should replace western culture? I think that many of them can be ruled out right off the bat, starting with the Taliban’s brand of fanatical Islam, and proceeding quickly to those that advocate clitorectomies. I can’t think of any culture that is exactly more of a model of feminist theory in practice than western culture. Does Thobani actually base her opinions on any actual facts?
