Story here. She had a circuit board, wiring, and play-doh strapped to her chest “in plain view”. You’d think after the whole Aqua-Teen fiasco in Boston a few months back she’d have figured out this was a bad idea. The state police said they were prepared to use deadly force against her if she resisted arrest.
I hope in this case, they throw the book at her. Dangerously excessive stupidity should be punished.
The sad thing is how many people would be up in arms if they actually executed deadly force on this nitwit. Put her in a cell and let her rot, that kind of stupid doesn’t deserve free air.
I’m with you. As a Boston resident, I was embarrassed at the ridiculous response to the whole Aqua Teen fiasco. But, if the limited facts in that story are correct, this woman is a complete idiot who purposely faked a bomb scare. She deserves whatever punishment the law allows.
Also, time to review your admission requirements, MIT
Hmmm… She’s a swimmer
on the women’s team. Wonder if this is some horribly misjudged initiation prank.
You’d think MIT students would be a little smarter.
Let’s hope the reasons behind her motivation will be made public. She a soph ay MIT. There’s got to be something besides stupidity driving such an ill-advised act.
What the hell did she think she was doing?
From her site: http://stars.mit.edu/me.html
I’ll say.
FWIW, here’s the law against “hoax devices” that they were threatening to use against the Aqua-teen guys. At the time, it seemed unlikely since they didn’t really pass the intent part of the law - they weren’t intending to cause “anxiety, unrest, fear, or personal discomfort.” Hard to see how this moron will be able to argue anything else. Hope she likes Framingham.
Not for much longer, I’ll guess.
According to this, her “crazy idea” was apparently to put on a fake bomb and then walk up to the Information Booth and ask a trivial question about an incoming flight, then walk out again, and stand around where the shuttle busses come in, and see what happens, I guess.
The attendant at the booth called security, and troopers showed up with “submachine guns”. " " but hardly surprising, considering.
Second the “she is incredibly lucky to be alive”.
I hope she goes to jail. Really. There’s collegiate dumbassery, and then there’s collegiate dumbassery that gets people killed. How long before some other clueless adolescent thinks it would be cute to razz the Grups with a fake bomb at the local airport, and those security guys shoot first and ask questions later?
At least she wasn’t wearing a sign that said “I can has crazy ideas”.
Is that the same Logan Airport that American Airlines Flight 11 and United Flight 175 took off from on September 11, 2001?
Total assholery at its finest. That’s the second person named Simpson I hope rots in prison.
What REALLY sucks is that if she actually did get tasered or shot, you know that the first thing somebody is going to ask is: “Was that an overreaction?”
(This reminds me of the time that one guy got shot at…Miami airport, I believe, when he freaked out and ran out of the plane. The security people chased him down and shot him–and a lot of people expressed cynicism that security had exaggerated how threatning the man looked as to cover their asses.)
I’m a little concerned that her actions go beyond breathtaking stupidity into the territory of a death wish. She’s extremely fortunate she wasn’t killed. I would definitely like to know more about her state of mind because these actions aren’t just dumb, they are borderline suicidal.
Her parents must be so proud.
Could she have been aiming for “suicide by cop”?
Either border line suicidal or border line mentally ill (or both).
Or totally immature “Oh, the law doesn’t appy to me. Oh, I’m just having a little fun. Oh, lighten up.”
My WAG: She was operating under the impression that airport security sucked and was intending to show how lax it was as a sort of performance piece.
Actually, based on the reaction to this thread, I don’t think that would be the first question at all. Imagined reactions by “somebody” is not what what REALLY sucks about this.
What worries me is that she is supposedly smart enough to get into MIT. :smack:
