I made some posts as a noob, and then couldn’t log in for awhile. At the time I couldn’t log in (I was logged in via another browser, Chrome, but couldn’t log in via Firefox) Idle Thought (the mod) was telling me that my posts were inappropriate. My posts were made in good faith, and it was only after a few complaints by other SD members that Idle Thoughts chimed in.
I have read the rules and to my understanding have not violated any of them, in spirit or in letter.
I am a useful and valued contributor here. But I am now feeling scared and anxious that if I don’t filter my posts to coincide with some unwritten rules here that I will be censored. I understand that human interaction is extremely complicated. And I tend not to filter what comes through my mind. I also tend to enjoy the dialectic, which challenges peoples assertions. I’m sure this is nothing new here, and I don’t pretend that I’m special. But I would like to know where i stand vis a vis the mods and. I don’t want any trouble here.
Notes on here are fairly commonplace. They aren’t like warnings. Notes are more of a little nudge to get conversation or behavior back on track. You got a note for the post, which I felt was a bit out of line. Self discovery is all well and good, but the members still do get a note (or warning), usually, when a mod happens to come on next…whether or not the poster learns the error of their ways.
That all being said, what you don’t want to do when you get a note from a moderator is reply with how you did.Saying you’re going to continue to do whatever you want anyway isn’t how you want to react, the best way to do it is to PM the mod in question or make a topic in this forum (as you did now), so that the note/warning can be discussed.
The note wasn’t your biggest faux pas, it was how you replied to the mod instruction.
In short, if you really want to keep being a member here, I’d suggest losing the whole “I should have freedom of speech here!” attitude. Yeah, freedom of speech here is all well and good, but we don’t allow it to be hidden behind as an excuse to say anything. Dial it back some and you should be okay.
Thank you for the explanation. I apologize for the freedom of speech thing.
In a world where saying whatever can lead to torture and death, the freedom to discuss mistakes and misunderstandings is vital. And it has been a pleasure to be able to do just that, here.

OP, you said “I tend not to filter what goes through my mind.” Well, it’s been my experience that this behavior does not play well in a society. Thoughtful people think before speaking/writing. If you really want to keep out of trouble, both here and in real life, I suggest you work a little on being more thoughtful. It tends to make life easier in a society.
You seem to be assuming that I was not being thoughtful in my unfiltered post, and that “easier” and keeping “out of trouble” were attributes that I should, as an individual in a society, aspire to.
Perhaps the more thoughtful (if not “easier”) way to address our disagreement (to bridge our “gap”) would be something entirely else.
I take responsibility, of course. If you disagree with me to the extent that you want to put words in my mouth, I suggest we take this private, or to the BBQ Pit.
My best,

Just a quick answer to these, I didn’t see it. Nobody had ever reported that post, as far as I can tell, so my best suggestion would be to report posts like that if you think they need being looked at. It’s entirely possible a mod could mod a post in a thread, but miss another one in the same thread. I’ve issued a note now.
