Idle Thoughts

Where are you getting eight months from?

I edited the Game Room sticky on October 3rd.
The Thread Games forum was made on January 27th.

That’s four months, at most.

And it’s your right if you don’t want to believe me or any other mod who will tell you the same thing.
I’m not going to argue with you any more in this thread about this, it’s a complete hijack. You can believe what you want.

It is, I admit that. The Game Room thing is settled. However, this thread is about you. The title of the thread is your username. Now, I don’t think your “joke” was offensive. But, I do wonder why a mod would send that weak joke to so many people. It’s not trolling, but it does show a certain amount of … well, let’s call it "entitlement’. You only did that because you love being a mod. I’m saying cool it with the fringe benefits.

Would you believe me? Because you have no idea what you’re talking about here.

According to your own logic, you must now apologize, unless you intended to offend. And that apology has to have all three parts. Or else we can get all offended at you, to the point of not caring about your feelings or your intent. It would be okay for us all to lash out at you.

That’s the thing that’s bugging me. All the people who are incensed are doing something far worse. You know that he didn’t intend to offend. He apologized for offending. But you clearly intend to offend him.

It’s really hard to show compassion for such people. Especially when they are on a board about fighting ignorance, and their problem was caused by their own ignorance that this is the day we as a society have sanctioned for pranks.

You talk about “normal people.” Normal people don’t get flying upset on a transparent April Fools prank. Most won’t believe anything unusual you say on April Fools–unless they happen to have forgotten the date.

They recognize that, if they fall for a prank on April Fools Day, especially one as obvious as this one, it is their fault.

Frankly, no. That whole fiasco even made me lose respect for Colibri. I was very surprised, and I admit, kinda pissed off.

How’s Dex doing? I hope he’s well.

Well, that’s an entirely reasonable way to feel about where posts go on an Internet forum.

Don’t know, don’t much care.

And if he asks you to pull his finger, run in the opposite direction as fast as you can.

That tells me more about you than him.

That’d be another situation where you don’t what you’re talking about. Are you putting together a collection?

I only know what I can read. You ask me to believe you, and then you say “Don’t know. Don’t care” about a guy who seemingly quit in protest. You have to excuse my skepticism.

I was under the impression Dex quit to spend more time with his grandchildren.

Precisely, my good lady.

I hope that you noticed that Dex did not have a single post in that thread.

He didn’t quit in protest. And he had more to do with the Thread Games subforum than Idle Thoughts. It’s as if you didn’t even follow how much work Dopers had to do to get that forum. The idea that Idle somehow did it makes no sense.

I have made it very clear on this board that I do not lie, even in cases where lying would have been to my benefit. So if you can’t believe me, I don’t know if you’ll believe anyone.

nevermind

Didn’t notice, don’t much care.

You just want it locked before armedmonkey finishes with the other mods and gets around to you.

Yeah, it is funny stuff.

That’s what she said.

The aftermath is much better than the original prank.

Personally, I don’t find either one of those pranks the least bit funny. There is a fine line between funny and bothersome. Physical pranks also carry their own risks and require more attention to detail.

The tap on shoulder prank is only funny if you conclude it with a Moe Howard twin V eye poke. And the milk snort prank is only funny if you spike the milk with salt so that it burns the nose on the way out. Didn’t you learn anything in prank class?

And, I certainly don’t limit these pranks to middle school. I also do them at my company’s executive board meetings, and the local elementary school…when I can sneak past security. And you get extra points for pranking the special needs kids.
