IE crashes on one certain video file

I have downloaded an AVI video file and stored it on my hard drive. If I click on the file, just once to highlight it, or double click to play it, I get an error message saying the Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. If I ignore the message, I can still play the video and it runs fine. Of course, if I click on the error message window to close IE, it closes any windows that are open and I have to start over.

I have had this happen to me several times before, and always on a video file. Highlight the file, or try to play it, I get the error message and it wants me to click on it to close IE. If I ignore the warning, and open the file to play, it will still run perfectly, I just have to move the error message window off the side of the screen to view the vid.

If I stop or close the video, I can’t go anywhere or open a new window without clicking on the error message and closiing all the windows, but after that, everything is back to normal.

I have run virus scans on the files and found nothing. I don’t think it is a virus or anything, just something about the file that trips the error. However, after the Norton has finished running a scan on the file, and finding no problem in it, then Norton freezes up and gives me a similar error window as the IE error window and needs to close.

Does anyone know what causes this or if it can be repaired? It is a pain to have this file constantly causing IE to lock up anytime I want to use the file.

I had the same problem. It has to do with the file itself. Your best best is to delete the file and your problems will be solved. If you don’t want to do that then in the video folder you have the file stored in, disable the “Thumbnail” view and that should solve the problem. I did that and my problem disappeared!

Good Luck!
