IE/NS "New Window" Question

Win2k box, relevant browsers are NS 4.x thru 6.2 and IE is 6.2

Say I am browsing the Dope, and want to open a new browser window.

In NS, when I hit ctrl+N, or File/New, the new window opens with my startpage. (Google)

In IE, the same command opens a new copy of the current page, whatever it may be. This is irritating, especially if the current page is slow to load.

How can I make IE open a new window with my startpage, like NS does?

I have plowed thru the options for IE, found nothing, but may be overlooking the obvious.

AFAIK, there’s nothing you can do to change this behaviour.

Just stop the page from loading and hit the bookmark or type the URL you want and go on.

There’s a simpler solution. Don’t use IE. Current versions of NS and other Mozilla-based browsers have nicer features anyways - tabs, built in popup suppression…Mmmmm.

If you have quicklaunch enabled on the taskbar you can just put a link to IE in there and click on it to open a new browser window that opens to your home page. That’s how I always do it. You can also do this from a desktop icon but that usually requires minimizing the window and you may not wan to do that.

I know you didn’t ask this, but just so you know, Navigator 4.x is a very different browser from Netscape 6.2. In general, something that works in one will not necessarily work in the other.

Apreciate the answers. Yes, I know the workarounds you all have mentioned.

I was just wondering if there was an actual setting to change and apparently there isn’t.

I don’t want to get into a NS v. IE thing, so I will consider this asked and answered.

Thanks again!
