IE problems, scroll bar navigation, image saving

I’m having a few problems with MS IE, and I can’t find the solution, hoping someone here can help.

Problem 1: Single-clicking on the right hand scroll bar seems to have the effect of double clicking - that is, the scroll bar drops two page lengths instead of one. I can’t find any options that would cause this to happen, and I know it has only started doing this recently. Anyone have any ideas?

Problem 2: When coming across an image that I would like to save to disk, if I left click and select “Save this picture”, the default filename shows as “untitled” and the default file type is shown as bmp. Previously, it would show the actual file name, and default to the actual file type (normally jpg, but sometimes gif). Anyone have any ideas on this one?

I have no idea if these two problems are related, but they both started showing up within the past couple of weeks. Any help is appreciated.

IE version is 6.0.2800.1106

Problem 1 is caused by a bug in a recently Microsoft patch. You could uninstall the patch and then use one of the methods in the Workarounds section for the time being.

Problem 2 can usually be fixed by clearing IE’s cache. Go to Tools|Internet Options, click Delete Files, and check the box for Delete all offline content. This may take a while to run if you haven’t done it recently.

Here’s the scroll bar problem:
