Arrgggh…here’s an annoying problem Internet Explorer has developed that I can’t seem to fix and is ungoogleable…everytime I open a new window now it closes the old one, so that I can’t open more than one window at a time.
Anybody have any ideas what’s going on? As I say, it’s ungoogleable - if you put in anything with internet explorer closes windows, etc. you get the entire Internet back.
Could it be caused by Yahoo Companion?
Why yes it *was * that - well thank you kindly. Never had a problem solved so fast.

Glad to be of service.
Incidentally, I found that page by searching Google with likely sentences including quotes around them, in this case “IE” “closes the old window”. Quotes help reduce the onslaught of choices returned, though of course they can also just as likely lead you down the wrong path.
While Yahoo was the OP’s problem, there is a setting in IE that will make it stay within one window, rather than opening new ones. If anyone thinks that’s as annoying as I do, here’s how to fix it:
At the top of a browser window, click Tools, Internet Options… then click Advanced tab. Find the “Reuse windows for launching shortcuts” line and click the checkmark to make it go away. Click OK.
I would think an IE Browser closing by itself is a feature, because every time IE opens on my computer, I close it imediatly.
I’d completely remove it if I could, but unfrotionatley XP is dependant for certain things.
Don’t worry about why IE is closing, just get a REAL browser.
Go here.

Well, in most corporate environments, that site may as well be www.getfired.com for installing unauthorized applications.
Most people are stuck with IE and have no option. Besides, “use something else” isn’t a very good answer to the original question.
