I need help in clearing my address bar’s auto complete.
When I type in “http://www.g” the pull down menu will suggest various websites that I’ve been to. I need help clearing this.
YES, YES, I know about Tools>Internet Options>Clear History, and about clearing the AutoComplete. Problem is that taking these measures will clear all addresses I’ve been at THAT DAY, but not past a certian point.
I wonder if I can interject an almost-on-topic-slight-hijack…
I don’t bother with favo(u)rites; I just start typing the URL and let autocomplete take me there, so to get to the SDMB, I type bo and autocomplete pops up with a list of urls, http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb being highlighted and transposed into the address bar text box itself.
But hitting enter only sometimes takes me to the desied URL; other times it just tries to go to http://bo (even though the full url was highlighted and shown before I hit enter.)
You can manually delete specific entries from the auto-complete list by editing the registry. Always be careful when using the registry. Backup the registry or the system state. Then:
Go to Start/Run, type regedit.
Go to:
My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs
Also, do an Edit/Find and search for the urls you don’t like. They might be in some other location as well.
Maybe you should use another browser that doesn’t do this? Should be some at download.com & there might be programs there that can clear whatever you want.
