I simply offered my prediction of what would have happened. Several other people derailed the thread when they could have started a new thread challenging one or all of my claims.

There have been numerous genocides and attempted genocides through human history. Considering the popularity of the KKK in the decades after the Civil War, I don’t think it’s outside the realm of possibility that a large number of white Southerners either would have tolerated or actively supported an attempted genocide of black people, had slavery survived (and subsequently rebelled with material support from Northerners and abolitionist).

Which genocide involved one group killing their only source of revenue? The popularity of the KKK can be traced to military occupation after the war. The war wasn’t bad only because of its immediate consequences, but also its still lingering consequences.
