Whew! Quite a pounding I’m getting for my throw-away comment about Ricky. Let me clarify the point I was trying to make. I’ve met Ricky Henderson (at one of the Giants-Angels WS games a few years back) and he is indeed a most pleasant person; he was most gracious in signing autographs, etc. I don’t doubt his love of the game and his desire to stay in the game. More power to him to stay in the game. But there are many ways to be involved with baseball without playing. I just find it sad (yeah, my choice of the word “pathetic” was bad) because this future HOFer’s skills have declined so much that he can’t play in the majors anymore, so he’s found a place to continue playing by going to a lesser league. But clearly he’s doing it because he loves playing since he’s getting paid many orders of magnitude less than his former major league salary. In keeping with the OP topic, I only brought up RIcky because I don’t think Bonds will keep playing after his skills are gone.
