If Ben Affleck movies keep tanking or doing just so-so why does he keep getting work?

Just curious. Are the money people betting on an Affleck comeback? Is is because he’s a politically active and a world class schmoozer and Hollywood executives like him? What keeps him in the running even though he has a terrible track record of late?

Dunno. We rented Daredevil Sunday night, and whoo boy, was it awful.

He can be good. He just certainly hasn’t been lately.

He’s a very charismatic performer, and most of his movies tanked for reasons other than him. But if his luck doesn’t come out of a tailspin soon, I think he’ll be headlining a string of unpopular TV shows soon.

It’s not unusual for an actor to hit a streak of bad films (for the record, Jersey Girl was quite good, though obviously not a hit). The same could have been asked about John Travolta or Leonardo di Caprio, among many others, at various points in their career.

Actors often go through lulls, then something big comes along and they’re on top of the world again. They keep getting roles simply because in Hollywood, you never know if they might click again (Robert Altman was able to make many movies throughout the 70s because of the success of MAS*H. His films barely broke even, if that, but the money men would think, “maybe his next will be another MAS*H, so it’s worth a shot”).

Similarly, Affleck can be good, and, with the right script, he’ll have another hit. In addition, you get a lot of publicity by casting him, so that’s a plus for the film. He’s also a pretty likeable guy, which gets him roles because people in Hollywood know him and like him.

I just checked out his filmography on imdb.com.
An actually underimpressive list.

I’d like to see him make a movie with Matt Damon where they play rival bad guys.
Make both characters very unlikeable and make them hate eachother.
Like two evil corporate big wigs, or two evil lawyers, or rival organized crime leaders.

Affleck was the BOMB in Phantoms, yo.

Word, bitch, Phantoms like a mallfucker.

At least he’s kinda good-lookin’.

Explain Robin Williams, if you can.

He’s had bankability at some point, so execs know if he is in the right film he can hit it again.

And since they are producing it, it MUST be a good film…
