So the claim here is that the USA is that much more misogynistic than India, Israel, Pakistan, Nicaragua, Bangladesh, … all the dozens and dozens of countries on this list of female heads of government … that the voting public won’t even tolerate a woman vaguely near to the levers of power and not actually the head of government?
That’s pretty damn cynical about your society. Wow. Ummm … see you in the twentieth century soon, hope you make it to the twenty-first some day.
I’ve never see any evidence that ‘most Americans’ don’t care for Nancy Pelosi. Obviously most Republicans don’t and there’s a tiny left wing fringe that doesn’t seem to like anyone. If Pelosi was considerably younger, she’d be high up on the VP list.
I’ve gone back and forth on deciding if announcing a woman VP was a good idea. On one hand, it was a clever way to eliminate Bernie Sanders from contention in a politically astute way. On the other hand, the anti police crap has hurt so many of the top candidates. I’m sure Klobuchar was one of his top choices.
But, no, in the end it won’t hurt him. And, perhaps Biden is trying his damndest to help break that glass ceiling. Ferraro was a joke. 1984 was a very different era. Remember the ‘jokes’ Republicans would tell about making Pat Schroeder cry? Mondale was going to lose anyway, maybe he picks up a few states with Gary Hart but it’s still a Reagan landslide.
Palin, the less said the better. A ridiculous Hail Mary that puts a permanent black mark on John McCain.
Biden is playing this campaign very conservatively so he isn’t going to pick someone from left field. It’s likely Duckworth or Harris. I was furious with Duckworth over her dumb comments about Washington statues but she’s redeemed herself and I think she’s learned her lesson.
Of course Obama had baggage: his skin color. He won anyway
And there’s another statement showing bias: what Hillary does affects the view of ALL women, every single one, but what Bush and Trump have done only affect a subset of men. That’s male privilege right there - a man’s sins largely reflect only on him as an individual, a woman’s errors are used against every single other woman.
He is black - that’s baggage. If you don’t see that you’re not paying attention.
But meanwhile they want Trump again in 2020? That’s just kicking the can down the road again. The people refusing to consider a woman in 2016 and 2020 are not going to vote for a woman in 2024, either.
I’m glad to see you posted an article to bolster your opinion, but did you read it? A North Dakota newspaper saying their governor doesn’t want to run doesn’t show broad support. In fact, “commentators” could be as few as two.
“The first-term Republican governor has drawn attention from conservative commentators for avoiding lockdown orders.”
Not quite your claim of “a lot of GOP voters”. But you tried to play by the rules, good for you.
