which, according to this page, it is, why did the doctor give me antibiotics, and why did I feel better almost immediately? I had an awful cough, my throat really hurt, so I go see the doctor, start the antibiotics and in a couple days my cough is not nearly as bad, the mucus is lighter and I feel almost normal. I still have a bit of a cough, but it’s more like a little tickle than the awful, lung-killing, instant headache starting cough that I had initially.
Well, bronchitis is usually from a virus, but there is a small chance it’s bacterial, so a doctor might as well prescribe antibiotics just in case. Odds are nothing will happen, but if there is a chance it can cure the bronchitis and there is minimal risk, why not do it?
there’s also the possibility that’s it’s a coincidence. Your body fought off the infection just before/after you started taking the meds. In either case, just make sure to continue to take them until they are gone or your doctor says otherwise.
I get bronchitis every so often. Sometimes antibiotics work, sometimes they don’t. I find that sleeping at least partially upright/propped up helps keep my lungs clear. I’ve been diagnosed with “acute” bronchitis before, and also “allergic bronchitis”. I’ve also had bronchitis and sinusitus, brought on by allergies, the mucus provides a good place for bacteria to grow and spread. I’ve been told that I’ll likely keep getting bouts of it due to my allergies.
The relief of my symptoms is so coincidental with starting the anitbiotics it seems really causal, but perhaps it is just a coincidence. Zabali_Clawbane, thanks for that link, very interestin greading. I’ll finish it at home. I too have asthma and allergies, but this bout of whatever-it-was, was different than anything I’ve had before. My allergies typically just affect my sinuses, sneezing, watering eyes, and such, and the asthma wheezing and cough were much different than the wheezing and cough I experienced with this stuff. The coughs were productive, but hurt my throat like a son of a gun, and the mucus was much heavier.
It’s just curiousity for me right now, I feel much better and I assume the cough will linger for another week or two.
