If I have an iPhone4, do I need an iPod Nano?

My sister recently bought me an iPod Nano. I already have an iPhone4. Is there any point in me opening the iPod, or should I just re-gift it?

I have an iPhone and a Nano, and I use the Nano to listen to podcasts at the gym. Much better than smashing (or losing) my iPhone.

The nano is much less susceptible to water, humidity, dropping, etc. Ironic given that its price makes it much more “disposable” than an iPhone. I also personally like the audio from the nano better. So my iPhone has no music and is never used as a music device.

Also the nano has a much longer lived battery so I can charge it on weekends and it goes fine for two hours a day all week.

I’ve got both as well. The Nano is used for music and podcasts. I don’t have my iPhone with me when I’m at the gym. I often like to listen to music when I’m lying in bed and the iPhone is usually on the charger then.

Nano is cool when I don’t want to be interrupted by calls and emails from work!

Also good when using relaxation MP3s etc.

One thing that I’ll chime in, is that I do a lot of converting TV video into MP4 format, and I prefer watching it on the nano as opposed to the iphone, because it’s easier to fast-forward through commercials using the wheel control that trying to hold down the fast-forward icon for the right length of time, or using the iphone video app’s slider control.

Your mileage may vary. On the other hand, if I’m watching video that I’ve ripped from DVD or downloaded (and somebody else has already edited out the commercials,) then the iphone video player is great.

Yes, I’m much too lazy to edit out the commercials for myself when I can just scroll past them.

The nano is great for video when the screen on the iPhone is just too big.

Hahahaha. That’s funny Rick.

The nano is much better as a music player - well, I should qualify that I’m referring to the click-wheel style, not the newer touchscreen version, which I haven’t tried. I have an iPod Touch and find it’s a pain if I’m using it at the gym or something. Have to wake it up, and navigate, to skip the current song.

My wife uses a Nano at the gym instead of her phone. She purchased an arm band holder for the nano and it is so small it doesn’t interfere with her workout.
