Per the article below, cell phone jammers are becoming more and more popular in various countries with businesses and venues that depend on quiet (churches, theatres etc).
The are currently illegal in the US, but let’s say I decided I answered to the higher power of disturbance free performances, broke the law and installed one in my local stage theatre. Is the FCC really going to come calling? How could any non-radio engineer cell phone user one confirm beyond suspicion I really had one? If the FCC does come knocking, what’s the worst that could happen?
Churches Installing Cell Phone Jammers
MONTERREY, Mexico - It was the reporters who noticed first. Unable to call their editors while covering the weddings of the rich and famous, they asked the priest why their cell phones never worked at Sacred Heart. His reply: Israeli counterintelligence.
In four Monterrey churches, Israeli-made cell phone jammers the size of paperbacks have been tucked unobtrusively among paintings of the Madonna (news - web sites) and statues of the saints.
Apparently these things are even portable if you want to shut down conversations around you!
The operation of transmitters designed to jam or block wireless communications is a violation of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended (“Act”). See 47 U.S.C. Sections 301, 302a, 333. The Act prohibits any person from willfully or maliciously interfering with the radio communications of any station licensed or authorized under the Act or operated by the U.S. government. 47 U.S.C. Section 333. The manufacture, importation, sale or offer for sale, including advertising, of devices designed to block or jam wireless transmissions is prohibited. 47 U.S.C. Section 302a(b). Parties in violation of these provisions may be subject to the penalties set out in 47 U.S.C. Sections 501-510. Fines for a first offense can range as high as $11,000 for each violation or imprisonment for up to one year, and the device used may also be seized and forfeited to the U.S. government.

You can bet over time you will be found out when all those doctors are not interrupted during a performance.

It’s um…ah… the copper sheeting in the roof. That’s the ticket!
astro .
Please don’t provide links to where one can buy things that are currently illegal in the US.
You’ve been here a long time. You know this is wrong.
Don’t do it again.
You had at least part of your question answered.
