Of course you do. And you should. .
So, what, they’re hanging their hat on the fact that “citizens” is plural, in “children of citizens”? Because first of all, it’s plural because there’s more than one citizen living abroad, and all of those citizens abroad might have children, and second, that law doesn’t say anything about children born on American soil.
Is this a serious question? If so, since the devil was in Underoos. If not, I guess I’ve been whooshed.
Speaking of Pawlenty, he’s the worst kind of politician and I thank Jim Beam daily that his career is over. Yes, they’re all bad, only looking toward the next election, insert boilerplate pol rant here, but if Pawlenty were to ever don the guise of giving a shit, it was so thin no one ever realized the guise was even there. In Minnesota, the entire state recognized that everything the asshole did (or didn’t do) was calculated toward a run at the White House, and his pandering was routinely mocked as hollow bullshit. Too bad he’s too dumb and boring to ever make it. Pawlenty’s failed WH run was one of the few instances in life that forced me to remark, “Boy, am I glad we elect people based on charisma.” Thankfully, Tim “Charm Vacuum” Pawlenty went nowhere, and his pathetically bad comic book “Courage To Suck” flopped shamefully, serving as a coaster on literally tens of coffee tables across the country. Better luck next time, T-Paw. What kind of douche deliberately promotes the moniker “T-Paw”?
Anyway, so where was I going with this? Ah, nowhere, but on to Governor Ken Doll. He’ll pick some previously unheard of male with a strongly conservative background that’s not quite too far into irredeemable Teabagger camp, probably with a swarthy skin tone, but not black.
Watch.
How about Wisconsin’s Governor Scott Walker? He’s led the conservative charge at the state level in rolling back all sorts of progressive legislation from the last century. He needs to be rewarded, and he’ll never get elected in WI again.
Hell, he’ll probably be free & clear available well before the conventions…
I’m not sure his goose is as cooked as it should be. Everyone I listened too thought the state Senate recall voting would turn out differently than it did. Is there anything to back the idea he can’t get reelected other than the fact we all know he’s a heartless turd and a butt boy for the Koch brothers?
I can’t see him as a prospective Veep choice based on his demeanor. 30 seconds of him speaking and it’s clear he’s a total sleaze. But that could just be me.
Of the ten official candidates running for the GOP nomination, nine of them have at some point been taken seriously as a candidate by either the voters or the media. Even Huntsman has been enough of a media darling to get talked up in the press.
Santorum is the lone exception. There has never been a real poll or vote where he’s finished in the top three, and I quite frankly can’t think of a moment in the past year where a real national media outlet has had him on for a one-on-one–or even discussed something he’s said other than to dismiss it as crazytalk.
In a race where the GOP seems to fall in love with a different girl every week, Santorum has been a wallflower. There is no way Romney would be dumb enough to pick a guy the whole rest of the world has rejected.
At one point I thought SC Governor Nikki Haley was custom-built to be a VP candidate. She’s a young, attractive woman and a proud Tea Partier–like Sarah Palin but, near as I can tell, without the crazy.
She’s second-generation Indian-American, which would add a little bit of color to the whitest of whitebread candidates. You’d think it would hurt her with Republicans in general, but if she was able to get past it in South Carolina, she’d have a pretty good chance.
What kills it for her, IMO, is her Sikh background. She apparently still attends Sikh services and had a Sikh wedding ceremony (in addition to a Christian one) as a nod to her parents and her culture, even though she identifies as a Methodist. If the candidate were anyone but Romney, that might work, but with a Mormon at the top the VP is going to have to be Churchy McJesuswept. I also think the comparison to Palin might be a little too easy to make at this point.
Whoa, whoa. Way too ethnic and possibly terroristy. Doesn’t love Jebus = no shot at even being allowed on the White House lawn.
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer
Female, Western State, strong anti-immigration credentials, to the right on guns and gay marriage.
What do I win?
Also a chronic alcoholic filmed slurring her way through interviews.
Awww, c’mon, she gets slack for her family troubles. One kid succumbed to cancer, another is locked away for criminal insanity.
Besides, everyone knows that family troubles are caused by extreme patriotism. Just remember Gingrich, who cheated on his wife because he loved his country so much.
Nonsense, a non-Messianic Jew could very easily be nominated without a hitch for starters not to mention most Americans don’t have a beef with Buddhists/Sikhs/Hindoos [1] politically-only theologically.
[1] Of course for a Hindoo the caste system will be a problem
Hindoo? Are you broadcasting from 1785?
I know, right? What the hell is a “Hindoo”? Seriously now, no one who has ever has a Sikh wedding will even be allowed to file papers at the White House, let alone on the presidential ticket with Mitt “The Mormon” Romney. This guy is going to have to find someone as up-the-ass white bread Protestant, good ol’ fashioned American as possible. No need to worry – at this very moment he has a whole army of interns sleuthing through America’s archives of unknown politicians with strong right-wing records and a love of Jesus. Regular Jesus, not Mormon Jesus.
I can only remember one Jew being nominated for Vice-President by one of the two major parties in my lifetime. I do not recall any Buddhists/Sikhs/Hindus being nominated for Vice-President by one of the major parties in my lifetime.
Very easily, indeed.
This may be true in theory, but Sikhs wear turbans.
How about Saxby Chambliss? Experienced Southerner with foreign policy experience.
As far as most Americans are concerned, a caste is what sets a broken arme.
Maybe because there aren’t many of them percentage-wise?
I was thinking more of Mike Huckabee-not Tea Party but conservative and Southerner.
