If Thad Cochran is too sick to run for reelection in 2018, is Mississippis senate seat in play

This is true nationally. I’m talking about Mississippi, where politics are very, very tribal, and Obama got about 11% of the white vote.

I agree. Dems are picking up some support among other tribes, so to speak.

In deep south states, about 90% of white people vote republican. In general across the US, about 90% of blacks vote democrat.

So if 90% of whites are voting GOP and they make up 3/5 of the state, then the republicans will win most offices.

Jason Shelton tapped out several weeks ago, so Cochran’s seat is now a three way race on the fall ballot.

Wicker will easily win his primary, and his Dem opponent is going to be David Baria, who recently committed political suicide
in Mississippi by endorsing an “assault weapon” ban. I expect Wicker will retain in the fall, by a wide margin.
