I wish the title of this thread was If the Next Doctor Who were an American it would be because the proper answer would be cause for riots across Britain.
“Oh, no, this will never do.”
As Buddy Love. As the Doctor.
With the Klump family as the companions.
I’ve watched Doctor Who since William Hartnell was playing him.
I don’t mind an American taking the role, but the companion should be considered:
On a somewhat related note - at a construction site the other day I noticed a blue Port-a-Pot and for some reason my mind came up with Dr. Who’s redneck southern cousin, Dr. Poo.
Sorry…
Glenn Beck.
Compared to Captain Hammer?
So, like when they gave James Bond a BMW?
Hmm. Would Wil Wheaton make a plausible Doctor?
Nathan Fillion was just in a Shakespeare movie! That’s highbrow! (Even if he wasn’t playing the lead.)
Maybe James Spader? He’s just a little…unusual, which the doctor should be, plus a little sneaky, which ditto.
There’s no job that Jeff Goldlum can do that David Duchovny pretending to be Jeff Goldblum can’t do better.

eta: except maybe Vibes, that shit was pure gold
Andy Dick. He’d be an eccentric Doctor. That’s for sure.
2nd choice would be Bronson Pinchot (Balki on Perfect Strangers).
Actually, the would be good.
I’d go with possibly Dean Stockwell. He’d be good for it.
Thomas Dekker has already time traveled. He’d be good as the Doctor.
Dean Stockwell is 77. I can’t see him as the Doctor unless they want to return to the Hartnell years. Jeff Goldlum is 60. Same problem.
I can’t imagine a modern Doctor much older than 40. These days he’s expected to be a high energy, action character.
I’ve already proposed the perfect Canadian combination: Shaun Majumder and/or Ian Hanomansing
I quote from another thread:
I still like Judy Dench as doctor, Hanomansing & Majumder as an alien companion.
Next choice would be: Chrissy Moltisanti / Michael Imperioli. He’d be awesome, and clearly not English.
#3 is James Marsters
Sheldon Cooper. Because Jim Parsons is a good enough actor to play Sheldon Cooper as the Doctor.
Kyle MacLachlan
Mandy Patinkin - can be very funny, but also has gravitas.
Timothy Olyphant - because that would just be badass!
Bryan Cranston - see above
for candidates with geek cred:
Zachary Levi (Chuck) - good with physical comedy and action
Danny Pudi (Community) - he could use his Inspector Spacetime costume!
For a female Doctor. I have to vote Amy Acker. Mostly because she’s awesome.
Matthew Broderick.
With Kate Micucci as his companion.
