Wouldn’t it be a radio program?
It’s called the Voice because the judges don’t look at the contestants in the first ‘Blind Audition’ round.
So yes, it could go on radio.
However there’s a lot of interest in us viewers seeing the contestant, hearing a bit of their back-story and watching the judges reaction.
So it does belong on TV.
I’ve seen many memorable moments - here are three from the UK version:
-
in this audition a chap has given up his job (admittedly a low-paid one) and is singing a song written and performed by a judge (and you should see that judge’s face at 1:50 on the clip!)
-
this is a very emotional back-story and a beautiful performance
-
this chap has such a beautiful tone combined with power
The same could be asked about going to a concert when one can hear the music via recording virtually anytime, anywhere. It’s not just about the listening experience, it’s about entertainment. So is “The Voice”.
Nah, that’s also a quality problem. As in, the sound quality will not be as good.
I think going to the movies would be closer, though even that is different. Maybe going to the movies when you have an awesome setup at home that is just as high quality.
Cafe Society?
Yup.

I’ve never bought the premise. Reality TV has been plagued by deceptive editing, favoring “personalities” over actual talent, voting that makes a Russian election look honest, and the clownishly unfair anudda wun bi da dus elimination system, and you’re telling me lookism is the big problem? Never mind the fact that after the very first step, the judges, and later the viewers, are perfectly free to be as biased and prejudiced and bigoted as they please.
A better title would be The Judge, which is what about 98% of the show centers around.
Agreed. Then “The Voice” is not the right name for the show since it is about way, WAY more than the contestant’s voice.
