If this had been uttered by Bush...

I wanted a more descriptive title, but it would’ve been too long. So, here’s my “official” title:
“If this statement had been uttered by Bush, you guys would be ALL OVER him. Why nothing here now?”

Here’s the statement:
"You don’t see a lot of gay abortion clinics. Same-sex couples almost never have unwanted pregnancies. If every man and woman in America would commit to a homosexual relationship with another man or woman, respectively, then we could virtually wipe out abortion in a generation."

Uhm…this is pretty stupid. He has an incredible knack for the obvious. Do I even need to point out…?
Well, of course I do…
Same-sex couples CANNOT HAVE PREGNANCIES, much less unwanted ones (discounting, of course, artificial means, which I’m ignoring for the moment).
If there were ONLY homosexual relationships in this country, well, we would do a lot more than just wipe out abortion. The next generation as a whole pretty much comes to mind…

Sheesh…

Oh, yeah…almost forgot to attribute the quote. It was John Kerry, yesterday (Feb. 27, 2004), in the Democratic Presidential Nominee debates.

Linkety link please? I’d like to read it in context.

I second the request for a cite. In the first place, I can’t find that there was a Democratic debate on Feb. 27; there was one on Feb. 26, and the article said there was another one scheduled for Feb. 29, but where’s the Feb. 27 one?

In the second place, the article I saw mentions absolutely nothing about references to “gay abortion clinics”; the closest it gets on gay issues is

In the third place, I don’t see how anybody could imagine that Kerry is seriously suggesting that all Americans should commit to same-sex relationships so that we can avoid pregnancies and thereby abortions.

The more I think about it, the more totally bizarro it seems; sounds like an Onion parody of Republican-blog smear stories about Kelly. If the OP is whooshing us here then I’m well and truly whooshed!

Yeah, where did you get this?

I’m drawing a complete Google blank.

Are you sure its an actual quote and not someone’s idea of paraphrasing?

Another hypothetical question then, is, what we would say if those comments had been uttered by Kerry?

If the comments were said by either candidate, I would think they were rather silly, but not offensive.

Well there is this from alt.fan.howard-stern
But that is the single solitary hit that I can find.

I think I’ve been “whooshed.”
I admit the date was a mixup - this was, I believe, a reference to the Feb. 26 debates. I just finished researching the transcript myself, and can’t find the quote referenced.

I’m continuing to look for other references…

If it turns out that I’ve been duped, then my apologies…

…but I will change my statement slightly…If this quote were attributed to Bush (whether factual or not)…then, WHOOBOY!, watch out for the fireworks…

Perhaps the OP has been whooshed

What exactly do you suppose the reaction would be, who would it be from, and why? It’s not like Bush never sais anything inane, so probably not many people would be that surprised, except that it seems to be a dramatic turnaround – for Bush – on aborton and homosexuality.

OK, move this to the pit so I can tell Mr. Gently what I really think of this thread.

Let me be the first to admit that had Bush uttered this quote, I’d have thought, “Hooray! He just lost his fundies.”

I can’t believe either Bush or Kerry would say anything like this except as a joke. Proabably best to ask a mod to close this thread.

The Onion did have an article on the “Massachusetts Supreme Court Orders All Citizens To Gay Marry” … this would’ve fit in there just fine.

Funny.

What if Kerry said it? I’d be surprised that he had a sense of humor.

What if Bush said it? I’d surprised that he said something that stupid that was at odds with his other positions, but not that he said something that stupid.

Biased? Yeah, I guess I am.

skutir,
My point was that frequently statements attributed to Bush are jumped on, attacked, vilified, etc. without the request for a cite - and certainly not researched beforehand by the OP.

Pit me all you want, but I actually went out, researched and discovered I had been duped, and made a post explaining that…not sure what else I could do.

Mods, you can close it down - next time I’ll try to be more diligent in doing a little research before posting…

Moderator’s Note: Thread closed at request of OP.

Now, on to that 12-page thread about Al Gore publicly calling Pennsylvania a “hellhole”.
