I couldn’t concede the moral high ground back to Donald Trump unless I committed several war crimes. So thanks for the “concern” but I don’t need it. I will continue to pour my scorn upon the man, secure in the knowledge that he richly deserves far more contempt than I’ll ever be able to produce.
If you aren’t carrying water for Trump, then don’t make posts like this. Don’t make small issues like this seem like they are some widespread problem. Don’t weaken actual real arguments about conspiracies (i.e. the Russia issue). Don’t portray people as hyperventilating rather than being legitimately upset or legitimately scared.
And, well, there is no moral obligation to defend someone, even if they are being maligned. You can decide that the person is so awful that you do more harm than good in defending them. And you can correct misconceptions without actually defending the man or attacking people who were misled. (That includes conservatives who just have to get digs on liberals, even though we’re currently on the same side here–against Trump.)
Finally, given Trump’s election, I’m not so sure the high ground is as important as people make it out to be anyways. Sure seems odd that suddenly Republicans and conservatives are constantly pushing the Democrats in this way, when before they were all about how freedom of speech meant everyone could be assholes, and no one had any right to be offended.
And don’t come telling me that it’s my responsibility to reach out to these traitors and to make sure that I’m not alienating them, because “hey - these are your fellow Americans”. Clearly, some of them are not.
The Better Angels of our Nature have a lot to answer for.
It must blow Trumpist minds that not that they are best buds with Russia and Russia is buds with Iran, that they are on the same side as all those Iranians they are supposed to hate. How are they ever going to give up a war with Tehran now?
Literally the only reassuring part of this whole story is that Trump is so catastrophically incompetent. If he were even slightly better at keeping his stupid mouth shut, this story might be relegated to the list of left-wing conspiracy theories.
Then I remember that the republicans in congress are still supporting him despite that, and I realize just how fucked we are. At this point, I don’t think voting for any republican at any level of government can be morally justified. The party is evil, corrupt, and utterly unwilling to even pretend that they care about accountability for anyone working on their “side”.
I told you all to vote for Gary Johnson, so this is the result. Screw all of you who wasted your votes on that idiot Clinton. You made your bed; now sleep in it.
