In the spirit of the day, this made me think about socks on SDMB.
If you were to create a sock, what would it do or say? Argue with yourself in GD? Agree with yourself? Insult the mods?
Ask all the questions you were too embarrassed to do under your real name?
Complain about your girlfriend not holding in her poop for a month?
I would probably post as the long lost father of the screaming boy preacher, reanimating that thread for the 5th time.
My Sock would create discussion threads about socks.

It would snub me socially and look down upon me for being a lower ranking official.
It would berate me for abandonment. When it got lost in the dryer, I never put forth much effort to find it.
In all seriousness, I’d have one for GD. I’ve avoided GD for the past 11 years because I know I won’t be able to remain civil and my ass will wind up getting banned. But if I could set up a sock just for that forum, I’d do it and try to enjoy whatever time I had there. 
I’ve occasionally wished I had a sock, either to ask a question or answer someone else’s question that I wouldn’t want to be publicly associated with. We should have something for that.
My sock would have a daily update regarding me not pooping for a month.
My sock would probably act like Smapti.
Probably ask some personal questions. But honestly it seems like too much trouble.
I’d ignore the edit feature. Both on the board and in my mind.

It would drop hints here and there, indicating that it was, in fact, Vice President Joe Biden.

Maybe create a username that is only one letter different from another more popular user (like use an o instead of an a, or an l for an i). Use it to argue with that person. Or just create mischief.
I wonder if I created “Shodon” and signed the bottom “Regards,Shodan”, how long would it take for people to notice.
My sock would open knitting threads. Or, yarns, I guess you’d call them. :dubious:
I would post “Who the fu¢k cares about your goddam pigeon eggs!”
It would report me for creating a sock. Then it would say “Why did I do that? Because I could. And why didn’t you stop me? Because you couldn’t.”
End up getting banned; no doubt my sock would have a hole in it.
