If you created a sock on SDMB, what would it do?

I’d make up user names that were puns on the names of other posters and argue with them, inventing crazy backstories as I went along. You know, oft bears cats and Unauthorized Cinnabon and SenorBeet…thought I think I’m just going to stick with those for now, because I’m pretty sure they’ll think it’s funny.

Right?

Right?

Lurk for years. Finally post after several years to one of those “hey lurkers, why don’t you post” threads and get instabanned.

Take over my identity, run me out of my life, and generally destroy me until the genetic kill-switch shuts off its metabolism and it dies.

And troll. A lot.

It would register with a cleverly cute pun for a username, since my real one is boring. And then it would get caught and get me banned and stuff.

Imply that I was the sock of somebody else --somebody I wanted to get banned-- because they had the audacity to disagree with me about something political.

I’d like to fixate on one person and follow them around on this board.

Never typing a word. Just quoting that persons last post and leaving a smilie face at the end.

I wonder how long one could get away with this before getting banned? And how creepy would that be?

I read another (news/technical) board where registered users are also allowed to post anonymously.

Anon posts need to be moderated more rigorously, but but they actually get used by normal users to (a) post comments that must not be traced back to their real job, and (b) post arguable opinions that they do not wish to argue about. 95%-98% of all comments are pasted with a user name, because, I gues, although you can post anonymously, wheres the fun in that?

I might take the opportunity to let the Grapist live again for a day.

My sock would post for me when I’ve been drinking.

Thread herejust for you.

Get darned to heck, I suppose.

It would agree with me. Of course, it would be obvious to everyone that it was a sock because no one agrees with me. :stuck_out_tongue: But it would be nice, just once…

I agree.
