I think this is the second time I do this, fortunately for you people I don’t start a pit thread about this every time I get pissed.
Why is it that people feel entitled to a certain standard of service when they are not paying for something? Our site is entirely a labor of love, and a lot of work it is, however a week doesn’t go by that we don’t get some moron complaining about our ‘service’’; sometimes to the point of becoming insulting.
What if they don’t like the service they can get a full refund. Dammit, I wish I could bitchslap people through my computer screen.
But we are paying for it. You can’t have missed that bit, you paid too.
And from my perspective, service has not only not improved, over the last couple of months it’s gotten worse. And I don’t just mean the questionable decisions by the mods & admins, either.
Man I’m starting to actually miss fuck Bush threads. What’s with all this against the board threads lately. So the page takes two seconds to load, this place is still the best value on the net.
Actually, I rarely have trouble with loading times. What’s been happening to me, a lot, recently, is that I get a page full of HTML code instead of the thread I just tried to load. Normally this happens around mid-day, USA EST, when I suppose the server load is heavier. But until this year (and I do mean this year as in 2005), that had never before happened to me. I’d rather have the page time out or take a minute to load then get a page full of unreadable text. I can always get in a quick game of Solitaire while I wait.
So while I agree that the Board is still one of the best places on the Web to be, I’m a trifle annoyed that the service appears to be degrading even though we are now paying for it. And for the record, I never complained about the service when we weren’t paying for it.
She’s talking about her website, I think. She’s got a popular and comprehensive informational cooking site.
And yes, she’s right, some people are goobers. Once I had someone email me, complaining about some software I “sold” them. (I linked to WordPerfect on Amazon.com, because I like WordPerfect.) They couldn’t get WordPerfect to install, and so somehow that was my fault. (Fortunately, their email was brief and I simply ignored it. They didn’t bother me again.)
Believe me, I’d love to know. Someone on the sdmb LJ mentioned they’d seen that happen when the server was too busy. I just can’t figure out why it never happened before this January. I’m sure the server’s been much more heavily loaded in the past than it is now.
Heh! I wouldn’t even dare start another thread about the SDMB.
Sorry I didn’t clarify, but I was on my way to bed, which is probably which got me so bothered in the first place.
This dolt sents me an email almost at midnight complaining that he “registered and still get no response”. Mind you he doesn’t say what he registered to, as we have a vBulleting forum and a newsletter. Both function independently. Of course he inmediately adds that he “thought this was a great site for dominican people and their families, now [he is] not sure”. Good grief, he wants instant response from an administrator at midnight local time.
I decided to ignore the first email and respond in the morning, but 3 minutes! later I get another one complaining about the tardiness in replying to his first email. The guy is not in Siberia (it’s an AOL email), so this is not a problem of thinking we are in the middle of the day. And even if I were, what possesed him to think that he “deserved” an instant reply? And why in the name of Og do some people think that they are entitled to a certain standard of service on a free site?
I am very, very polite in my replies, even when it is dolts like him (which thankfully are a very small minority), I figure I am somehow representing my country, but gosh, I sure wish I could slap him.
Yeah, heard that, MightyGirl. On my website, I’ve mostly got positive feedback; one dude stomped off in a huff after I gave him a warning on the forum, but I guess that was just bitterness.
However, once or twice I’ve gotten a few people bitching about the quality of the French. My written French is pretty good, but it’s still no doubt liberally sprinkled with errors in accents, agreement, and diction. That’s what you get when you have an Anglo translating his entire site with no money to pay a reviser. I’ve often gotten emails saying, “btw, there’s an error on such and such a page,” which I am very appreciative of. But one guy took it on himself to ream out how such a page full of errors was degrading and insulting. Christ, if it had been in English only, you wouldn’t even have noticed; but I thought it would have been ridiculous to have a page on the Montreal metro not available in French, so I did my fuckin’ best with the resources available to me, to wit, time, a Grévisse, and a Harrap’s Unabridged. So yeah – make constructive comments and cesse de me faire chier.
