If you have a DS, go buy Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure

Anyone else playing this? This game is just awesome.

The quick synopsis for those who haven’t heard of it:

It’s basically a platformer, a mix of Mario-style (some jumping puzzles,) and Castlevania-style (you attack enemies with a sword and gun.) You accidentally unleashed monsters from a puzzle/treasure world into “our” world, and now you fight them back while finding pieces of the Golden Suit, to become the ultimate Gentlemen.

But there’s another aspect…the puzzle aspect. The bottom screen slowly fills with colored blocks, as well as powerups and the enemies you kill. Their “spirit,” as it were, when it dies flies to the bottom screen and occupies a colored block. You switch to the lower screen with the X button (the main area pauses,) and you match blocks in groups of 3, 4, or 5 (people say it’s like Tetris-attack.) You can only move blocks sideways, not up or down. If you don’t eliminate the enemies by removing their blocks, they will get pushed back up onto the main screen.

But the best part is yet to come. There is a “super meter” that fills up every time you remove blocks. When it gets filled up, you can activate “Tea Time.” Rather than try and give you a description of what happens, I’ll just point you towards youtube. (you also get a view of regular gameplay before Tea Time happens.)

GOOD SHOW!

Yes, you saw that right. You turn into a giant, steampunk mech that ravages everything in sight to the tune of classical music played on an electric guitar.

The game’s difficulty curve isn’t too bad, though the later levels do get pretty hard (so I hear, I’m only on world 2.) And, like Castlevania or Metroid, you do eventually get items (like golden pantaloons, the golden pipe, etc…) that let you access secret areas in earlier levels,. It’s not AS complex as either of those, because there isn’t an open map to explore, but you can get secret “treasure” areas to get gems and gold, which you use to buy more life, better weapons, and Tea Time upgrades.

So in short: this game is awesome, go buy it.

Oh man, that looks silly and fun. I just wish my entertainment budget wasn’t so tight. :frowning:

When I saw the thread title, though, I was really hoping for a sequel to Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I really enjoyed that game.

Professor Layton actually already has a sequel, I just don’t think it’s released in the US yet.

Two sequels, actually. I can’t wait for them to be released here.

Ugh. Another victorian explorer platform/puzzler with steampunk elements? Can’t game companies do anything original?

Yeah there are just thousands of those.

Can someone please direct me to a recent Best DS Games thread? The search won’t work on DS, and I don’t want to be yelled at for starting a thread if there’s been one recently.

Right here! The title says DSi, but don’t be confused, the DSi is just an updated DS. They play the same games (for now.) Eventually, some games will be released that only the DSi can play, perhaps cause they use the cameras or the SD slot. But right now all games are usable on both.

Thank you!

This game has tons of charm, but it really straddles the line between challenging and OHMYGODIWANTTOTHROWMYDSAGAINSTTHEWALL frustrating. I’ve finally made my way to what I think is the final boss and… I’m actually not sure I can finish it.

BUT… I mostly enjoyed the ride (and I’m surprised it came from EA!)
