If you have a tablet, when and where do you use it?

Nexus 7 - and I use it all the time at home. It’s wifi-only, so it usually doesn’t leave the house, but I keep it right next to the couch. I find it great for casual Facebook/Feedly/web surfing while laying on the couch (though if I need to type anything more than a short email, the laptop comes out). It’s also fantastic as a remote for the Chromecast.

iPad 3 here. I use it pretty much daily. At work, I use it all the time (Noteshelf, Thinstuff, Word/Excel, Get Console, Mobile Admin, Net Analyzer, CISCO Tech Support app, AnyConnect, WebEx/GoToMeeting, etc). At home or on the road I use it to surf the web, post on this board (as now), play games, etc. It’s hard to think what I’d do without the thing (probably have to lug a laptop everywhere, like I used too).

I have an iPad. The first few weeks I had it, I thought it was the best thing ever, but the novelty wore off and now I almost never use it.

I use it to listen to Pandora, surf the web, and to play Atari Classic Arcade or Console games, but I could probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve used it in the last month. My 11 year-old daughter is completely enamored with it, so she’s almost constantly using it (for what, I have no idea).

Kinda the same here. I have an iPod Touch which is the size of an iPhone, just with no phone and no cell data.

I use it when I’m sitting in front of the TV, to check in on my daily games and Facebook and the SDMB. I also then use it in bed, when watching shows on the laptop at night, so I don’t have to use the laptop to surf the web or whatever. It’s not easy to use while lying down but my Touch is.

I don’t carry a purse so I don’t really take the Touch out of the house much. Not enough pocket room. I always wish I have it with me when I find myself at a place with free wi-fi.

Bought an ipad mini instead of a smartphone (I migt have one of the last clamshell phones in the US - I can’t even text on it properly).

I love the tablet. The size is pretty much perfect for me - much more screen real estate than an iphone, but much more portable than a regular ipad (I had an ipad air for work for 5 months, and it got really awkward to tote around, this is much better)

Surfing the web, dumb games, typing random notes to self, answering random questions on the fly, entertaining neices and nephews, keeping in touch with internet ‘friends’ and colleagues.

Totally addictive. I never use my laptop anymore unless I’ve got some serious writing to get done.

iPad 3 WiFi only.
I use it when watching TV (surf during commercials) or early morning / late night when I don’t want to go my office.

I also have quite a few board games on it which I play (vs the computer)

I have an iPad 3 and an iPad mini Retina.

I love them both and use them all the time. The Retina has my data plan on it so I can take it with me when I go places.

I used both for web surfing, email, watching Netflix, playing games, and reading ebooks. I write my own stuff, so I also produce PDFs of my works in progress at the end of each day, email them to myself, and then put them into Kindle so I can review/edit them.

I use the 3 to communicate with the spouse over instance message during the day since for whatever reason AIM stopped working on my work machine ages ago (I think it doesn’t like my VPN).

So yeah, I love my iPads.

Nook HD, the 7 inch model. Currently waiting for the replacement, due to arrive later this week (the screen went dim and won’t brighten, but there are still almost 6 months to go on the warranty, so I get a new one).

I use it mostly as an e-reader (duh!), including library books and my previous Kobo purchases (it also runs the Kobo app), and magazines on Zinio. It’s also handy for quick web searches, emails and such at home whenever the laptop isn’t already on; it’s much faster than waiting for the laptop to boot up.

Away from home, it’s the web search workhorse (much better than squinting at my cell phone) and the portable library. I’m planning to go to London in August, and it will be the first major trip of my life when I will bring just an e-reader instead of my usual stack of paperbacks.

Which one? I’ve been using ShopShop on my iPhone for years but it doesn’t sync between devices, which is a pest, so I’m looking for one which does.

I usually have a backpack with me, and put the tablet in that. There is a fold-down flap right at the very back of the pack that is perfect for the tablet. I got a very rugged case for mine with rubber corners. The screen would have to land face down onto a rock to break.

I have an iPad that my job provided to me in lieu of a laptop, since I travel (infrequently) for work. I have no idea what model it is. It is sitting on our kitchen table, where it’s connected to a speaker system and used to stream Pandora and our Amazon cloud player while we’re in the kitchen or living room. That’s all – it hasn’t moved from the kitchen table in months.

My wife has an Amazon Kindle Fire that she uses to play solitaire nearly every night before bed, and infrequently uses as an e-reader.

Microsoft Surface. I used it every day for surfing, email, connecting to work, games, listening to music, cookbook, and I’m sure a bunch more, I think I’m going to upgrade to the Surface Pro 3 soon.

Um, any of you who don’t use your tablet:
I’d be happy to take them off your hands.

One of the e-mail newsletters I get is Notebook Review. In their most recent issue they have this:

I thought it said **toilet. **So, we really don’t need to take this any farther.

I use OurGroceries.

And back to the OP - various family members keep running off with my tablets. The one I have managed to keep their assorted mitts off of is an iPad Air. I use it constantly for everything from Kindle reading to web surfing to bill paying. I use a PC for work and, if I ever get back to serious writing, I will use my MacBook for that.

Otherwise, all tablet.

The vast majority of use I get out of my ipad is as a portable Dropbox terminal.

I teach math and mainly use it in the classroom. I scan in homework assignments from the textbook and other notes and such so I can project them in class. I find it to be a lot more convenient than using the computer in the classroom because I can just load up the PDFs in dropbox and I can pinch and zoom really easily.

I also take it with me to meetings where I might want to refer to an email or something in my notes. If I didn’t also have a good scanner, I’d almost never use the ipad. I don’t like using it for web browsing.

I’ve had a Galaxy Tab 2, 7 inch for a little over a year now. I love downloading 400+ page e-books and reading them in bed without the awkwardness of a real book and the convenience of carrying it in my purse to read while eating at McDonald’s or waiting for an appointment.

Now that I have Wifi at home, I alternate using my tablet and laptop, depending on how their batteries are holding out. Sure, I could just use my laptop plugged in but where I like to sit would mean stretching the cord a good distance across the floor and since I’m up and down quite a bit, I worry about tripping over it. When you have bad knees, you tend to think of things like that.

A few years ago, while riding the bus from downtown at rush hour, I was a little surprised to see that all the passengers seemed to have their heads down looking at their gadgets. I’ve always been a see-the-scenery type person no matter how many times I’ve seen it before. I still am but I admit that the other day, I did it too. For a few minutes, during the boring freeway part. Once we got out in the countryside, in my purse it went. I can see the attraction of using it on the bus or train, though, and will probably be tempted to do it again.
