I was listening to This American Life the other day and it was the episode titled Nemeses (which is episode #453 on their website). At the very very end the episode ends with a song with the following lyrics (which I transcribed so they may not be perfect):
“hateful, hateful
you’re so hateful
your spite turns my milk sour
your heart turns the grass brown
nemesis why do you hate like this (x2)”
The song is sung by a female and the music almost sounds like a lullabye. I really want to know the name and artist of this song.
This American life publishes the songs they play on the page for each show on their site. The only problem is that this episode’s show page lists every song that was played during the episode except the one quoted above. I tried using Shazam on my phone but it couldn’t find a match. I tried typing the lyrics into Google but can’t find anything. I tried several ‘lyrics search’ websites but all to no avail. And now I’m asking y’all for your help.
Now I’m not asking any of you to do this search for me but I would like to know if anyone has any other ideas for me to try (or if you happen to know the name of the song that would be much appreciated).
Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this.
[For anyone who is interested in hearing the song clip go to: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/453/nemeses, click on “Play” next to the picture of the two robots, and when the pop up window opens slide the slider to the 61:54 mark and the song will begin right as Ira Glass is signing off]
Wow. I tried using the SongID app on my phone, and it was stumped. This is the first song it has failed at. Sorry for the useless post, but I’d be interested to hear the answer if and when you find it.
I’ll try this but I was a little apprehensive because the website says that they don’t like these kinds of emails because they post the info on each episode’s page. Hence the quandary I find myself in.
I’ve got a rake, a hoe and an edger. I hope you’ve got a mower and some heavy duty trash bags. See you in a week (it’ll take a while to hitchhike a cross the country).
The song is “Nemesis” by Canadian artist Leah Abramson as part of her “group” (actually just her layered over multiple arrangements, Prince-style) The Abramson Singers. This album plays pretty regularly in a coffee shop I frequent.
