I sailed through this one from blue to purple in order, but I agree that the category name for purple was silly. What’s wrong with “contain silent letters”?
Intresting puzzle today. I thought they might be going for a movies group.
BANANAS, COMMANDO, and WOLVERINE are movies (although, technically, it’s “The Wolverine”). “Bananas” must be 50 years old; I’d have been surprised for them to use something that old and somewhat obscure.
I also had the same thought because Gator and Bananas were specifically 1970s movies but there weren’t any others. And of course I thought of X-Men because of Wolverine and Rogue but I am sure that was intentional.
I had one bad guess because COVER is
Summary
what US Marines call a hat and I’ve never heard of a SNAPBACK
I googled ”snapback hat”, and it’s a baseball cap with the adjustable plastic strap that snaps together.
I own literally dozens of these and have never once seen or heard that term.
I was fooled by today’s Connection puzzle. It does that sometimes, I’ve noticed.
Boba and Fett are two words in today’s Connections puzzle…heh.
I didn’t get a single one today, 11/22/2024.
Glad I’m not alone. I got stuck with things that I thought were related to cameras or photography.
I saw those, too, but it bothered me that they weren’t in the same voice. Then I got the publicity group and solved from there.
I would think it’s common to either solve the puzzle, or get none of the groups correct. With each correct group you find, the rest become easier.
Which is exactly what happened to me right now, 11/23/2024. I solved today’s puzzle in probably less than a minute. In order, I got Yellow, Green, Purple, Blue.
Blue, Green, Purple, Yellow for me, no errors.
I generally try to solve the entire puzzle before submitting any guesses, which helps avoid the red herrings like that photography grouping yesterday. I highlight the first category that catches my eye, but don’t submit it. Then I try to sort out the remaining items. If and when I get them, I try to submit them in reverse order, i.e. purple to yellow, which Connections Bot gives the highest score for. Guessing the order of green and yellow is usually a crapshoot though.
This strategy has my streak at 120. Occasionally if I’m struggling I’ll submit a category or two I’m confident in to clean up the board a bit, or simply to rule out the possibility that I’m stuck on a red herring, but this has become pretty rare.
Today’s (11/23/2024) was easy for me too, once I saw the red or black group
Once I guess something like that wrong once or twice, I move onto another category. The game has these red herring traps.

Some of us aren’t quite that bright.

Some of us aren’t nearly that bright.
I’ve seen Connections puzzles where there appears to be a rhyming word category, with bing, ding, ring and ping, but there might also be a fifth rhyming word. I’ve found the words often belong to unrelated categories. Or there will be three words that go together but no fourth one. Again, this is a misdirect.

Like Bingo, Bango, Bongo, and Irving?
11/24: I finally realized that there was no category for Addams Family. Then I solved the Yellow and Green categories, and, after a good little while, figured out Purple.
I would never have gotten Blue.
I got blue first. The vast number of sub-genres of electronic dance music (and the seeming insignificant differences between them) causes me to remember some of the names. I couldn’t tell you which was which. Green and yellow revealed themselves, and I got purple for free.
