It was Star Trek Characters.
There was no way I was going to pass up Tuesday’s red herring, even if I’d known in advance it was one.

Too many options for blue and I didn’t like yellow.

Thought I had it today, but no RR. Saw purple right away and knew it was purple, blue was leftovers, and green was so obvious and literal I thought it must be yellow.

Blue was leftovers. I didn’t like yellow, either. But once i had it down to those 8 words, there were two kinds of word. The blues had to be names, and the yellow were vaguely connected.
Samee for me. There was definite waffling on yellow and green and I got lucky.

I got purple first honestly today (DIATRIBE gave it away), so I actively tried for the RR. Yellow and green could have gone either way IMO.
Thursday, and I did not fail this time. Hurrah. However, Purple is nonsense.

Purple was easy but wordplay so purple. Blue was leftovers. Screwed up yellow vs. green - I forgot my plan to change my green choice just before submitting.

Easy enough, but agreed with @GuanoLad - PURPLE was pants.

One little problem but eventually got them all especially after the huge hint on green.
Didn’t get Purple but after seeing the answer thought it was fair.

Not too hard, not too easy. If there was a red herring I missed it, though.
I did figure out purple, but only after it was the only four left.
Couldn’t get blue or purple this time. Can someone explain what CALLBACK means in the context of joke telling? I never heard the term used before.
There’s a Coyote and Roadrunner cartoon where the Coyote builds a trap with a big steel plate that springs up out of the road. He waits for the Roadrunner to approach, flips the switch, and nothing happens. The plate stays firmly in place below the road surface.
The Coyote, as is his wont, tries other schemes to catch the Roadrunner. Eventually, he gets some Acme leg-muscle vitamins, which grow his legs to the point where he can run even faster that his feathered prey. He gives chase, and just when he’s almost caught the Roadrunner, they pass over that same road, and the steel plate pops up to stop him, leaving a Coyote-shaped impression in the metal.
That’s a CALLBACK.
