Confident leftovers for purple and a second consecutive reverse rainbow. Blue took me back to first grade.
Scary purple leftovers for me and a lack of confidence in the fourth blue led to the following floundering for me.

Well after getting purple first I tried for the reverse rainbow but failed.
Not only that, but…
…you have to solve that clue. Ordinarily, when you get to the last two categories you can solve either one, and then finish the puzzle with the four leftovers.
With today’s puzzle, I had five movie title and three leftovers. The only way to solve it without guessing was to figure out the category for the leftovers, and which movie fit the pattern.
I kind of enjoy the puzzles with good red herrings, but I really dislike the ones where there’s a category with five possible answers. You can’t just solve that category and take those four clues out of the puzzle. You have to solve the others first; that annoys me.
For the people I know who don’t play Connections this is often their issue with it: they feel you aren’t really solving something; you are just getting into the head of the person who made it.
I think some of them are more like that than others.

I got to my third guess, and thought, “holy shit, another of those is a movie?” I did not know that “Roman Holiday” was a move. So i started googling the other 4 words, to see which one was a movie. I got as far as “rotary clipper”, and the search preview of the results for that included solutions to today’s connection puzzle.
I would never have gotten purple. I’m annoyed. This doesn’t feel like a fair puzzle.
I was in the same pickle and ultimately failed today’s puzzle.
Today’s purple could have been more specific: Ending in NBA players who are sitting on their buttocks at home while the playoffs are going on
Yeah, I was sure that one of the categories was something like Academy Award winning movies, so kept including Raging Bull with the movies.

I was on the right general track for purple, as in how it was constructed, but took me a bit to see it.
I liked it. Then I watched an episode of Only Connect to remind myself of how dumb I am.
Tuesday, and I failed this one. They weren’t tricky answers, but I just couldn’t see them.
