Not sure I would have gotten today’s purple in a million years but it was my final one so I got through it.
I was quite proud of myself for getting purple as my third category today.
I got purple before blue today as well. I was on the right track for blue but only two clues made sense to me.
As soon as I saw FEDORA and WHIP I knew what was up, and the other two fell right in. Surprised that was the blue category.
Yellow and green followed quickly, and then I stared at the remaining four words for a couple minutes and came up empty. I like to “solve” the last category in my head, but couldn’t do it today.
I found the blue one first.
I got yellow first because blue felt like a red herring.
I got purple off the bat. When I saw
VIXEN, it leapt out at me, and, for whatever reason, I thought “hey, that rhymes with Nixon…wait a sec, and PAGAN rhymes with Reagan. Those two words stuck out to me, so I got lucky my rhyming brain had the right instinct.
Once again rolling my eyes at purple.
I got purple second because I knew DISCOG and BALLY were fucky words so I looked for the silly connection and then found the other two
Same logic at you, and got a reverse rainbow today. (Hardest to easiest). And I actually did find yellow the hardest to spot today for some reason—I didn’t set out to get them in reverse order of difficulty.
Today was a purple first day. As soon as I saw Hedge Maze I found the rest.
Second for me. I got Yellow right away, followed by Purple, Green, and Blue.
Same - in fact it was Purple, Yellow, Green, Blue, mostly because I was convinced the Blue group must be a red herring.
Same about the blue
be honest, I saw twins and virgin and thought Zodiac symbols.
Scales too. Which was the red herring.
Right. I was looking for a fourth symbol.
And now that I can be spoiler free, as I’m talking in general, that’s my strategy for maybe hitting the purple first. Look out for words that just look “off” and don’t seem like they belong with any other words. Try to think of something that may fill in the blank before or after (those seem to be the most common). See if there are homophones that work. See if adding a letter in front or back turns up anything. See if subtracting a letter from the front or back works. See if subtracting an entire ending works. See if rhymes for that word work. All that sort of thing. Looking at all of last weekday’s puzzles, I see I got purple first three times, once second, once last.
I got yellow then green pretty quick, so blue was worth trying out since I hadn’t made a mistake.
Same here. Purple was one where I didn’t see it but smacked my head afterwards.
