If You Like "Wordle", Try "Connections"

I initially thought that category was a figurative red herring, because it was heavily overpopulated and I tried it first with HEAD and BALLOON instead of VELVET and CROSS and didn’t get the one away message.

I saw the David Lynch reference so I knew which four words had each be in an individual category.

Ah. I didn’t even catch that. I mean, I saw one of the references, but am apparently not schooled enough to find the others. It just played as a straight, normal puzzle for me, yellow first, purple second, then blue and green.

Blue Velvet, Eraser Head

Blue category was last for me and I couldn’t figure it out.

Ah I do know all those, I just didn’t, um, connect them.

Another easy one today, 2/9. Purple was so obvious I couldn’t believe it was an actual category.

Agree

They’re just having fun today with “SUPER BOWL PARTY PERSON” and “JUMBO TRON” together in the starting matrix.

Yeah, almost reverse rainbow for me. I tried to figure out which they considered easier for the yellow category, and guessed the green. Purple was weirdly easy—I was shocked it was a purple when I put it down.

After solving green, yellow, and blue today, I looked at the four remaining words and thought, ”I dunno - words with two different pronunciations? Nah, that’s too lame.” But, lo and behold.

I got purple first today. I always start looking for word play so it came easily

Booooooo!
It’s bad enough to have one stupid category.

I hated today

Today Purple was so stupid I got it first. Blue was my last/default category because I have rarely watched The Simpsons.

Never heard “mollycoddle” before, just the “coddle”. Purple was just as stupid as ever, but no mistakes for me today.

Yep, the folks in my office were confused when I used that word a few years ago.

Huh. That’s a common enough one for me. On the other hand I was lost at “hangdog” the other day/week. Still waiting to hear it in the wild.

The oldest of my coworkers is 32.

I’ve only ever seen it used in “hangdog expression”, as in “after being chastised he wore a hangdog expression on his face”.

I’ve heard hangdog, but it wouldn’t be a word I’d readily use.

Today (Sat 2/15) was tough. I didn’t make any mistakes, but it took a while to even get yellow, then a long time and shuffling to work out the rest. Purple last, of course.
